No company should give you a firm answer on how much driving you will do with a trainer, since the trainer has final say on how much you drive and when. However, they should be able to provide you with the completion requirements for the driving parts of the training.

I would never pay for a trucking school out of your own money. there are trucking companies that will train you. I have been there, just suck it up and start over and start fresh like a new driver. you want to go to a private school, there are a lot places you can get money for it. the government offers grants and if you are prior service, you can use your GI bill. you can even sign up for unemployment then you will qualify for training through the unemployment office.

If you drive OTR, you will rarely get sent to the NE. I won't say it never happens, but we have a group of drivers who do nothing but drive the NE, and they get almost all of those loads. I mostly run the midwest and the southeast. I get thrown up into the NE more often than most other OTR drivers, but that's because I've made it clear that I'll run wherever they need me to run and won't put up a stink about it. And even then I can go months without ever crossing the Mason-Dixon line.

DUI that long ago; you're ok now. There's guys on this forum that have had 3 DUI's and now driving again.
The big issue these days are drug tests; urine and hair follicle tests.
