Its hard right now to find a company thats hiring in florida. But if you live north of tampa you may have a better out come.I live in Bradenton about 40 miles south of tampa, and every company that may be hiring in florida told me I live to far.I think florida is a bad place to live right now if your a driver looking for work. But I could be wrong, just seems the few companies that are hiring in florida only hiring drivers tampa and north word.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Dude, you're in my old neighborhood! I lived in Bradenton for 5 years. Getting hired out of that area is definitely a pain.
BTW - been to the Olympic Cafe? If ya get there, send me a gyro! -

Oh, you gotta go there sometime. Great Greek restaurant. The food is awesome! It's on Manatee Ave, around the 6700 block or so heading out towards the island. Take a good appetite, prepare to have a hard time deciding on what to pick, and be prepared to wait a bit for a table. The place was always hopping when we lived down there.
I'll be watching for that gyro! -
Home time would be very important to me, I am married and have a 7 year old. I have searched and found numerous jobs around me that would allow daily or weekend home time, BUT ALL of them seem to require 1yr+ experience min. My wife and I have talked extensively about it and have both agreed it would be fine to be on the road for several weeks or more at a time if need be. Priority one for me right now is putting food on the table. Will do, thanks!

I think Florida is a bad place for a lot types of work right now. I've been a land surveyor full time for 9 yrs, my dad has been registered for 35+ and neither of us have ever been this slow with work. I can't tell you how many people I know that are out of work around here in the surveying/engineering/construction fields. I've noticed the same thing about cutting off the hiring area around Tampa or the I-10 corridor. Were I'm at near Brooksville is 45 min North of Tampa right off I-75, less than 1hr from I-4, Tampa, Orlando, Ocala, Lakeland and Turnpike, only 2hrs from I-10 and I-95.Last edited: Nov 13, 2008

Freight is slow in Florida. Werner contracts with I think its called TDI. You can get a loan for there school. Were I went to school at it was three weeks so the govt. couldnt float the loan I have been working on my otr with Werner and for the most part It has been a good experince. My Trainers have been awesome.
Go with your gut on chosing a company somebody always has negative and positive things to say about companies. Stevens Transport has their own school, C.R. England has their own school and there are more. Hope this helps, keep it safe out there. -
I know what you mean about trying to get hired south of Tampa. I live in Palmetto and can't get a bite on any company.
Hey Lilbit, the Cafe is no longer there. -
The Olympic is gone? That really sucks. That place rocked! Even during the summer months we'd end up waiting for a table at that place, and summer is the slow period.

I was wondering about that becouse I never heard of them.
