That's exactly my point. I don't know why anyone would willingly put up with all this crap and work for such a mediocre rate. I can see cleaning out a truck if it was a decent company, trust me I've done it before. But it was to my advantage. Basically local home every weekend, paper logs, schedule own pickups and only slept in truck a handful of times in the 8+ years I was with company. But to do this for a mega no thanks

    On the other hand...
If the terminals that were issuing used trucks would be a bit more considerate of their drivers, they would hire people to clean those trucks properly.

The Phoenix terminal (at my company) has such people, but not all of our terminals do.

One truck I got assigned to (in WV) had dead batteries and was infested with stink bugs when I got there to pick it up.
On top of that it had a transmission output shaft leak that was not properly fixed.
The leak and infestation problems didn't really show up until I was on the road with it, and then it was a 6 month nightmare until I could get rid of the truck. Out of that 6 months the truck was in the shop, for one thing or another, a total of 6 weeks. It drove my Platinum rating down to Bronze, which is second from the highest to the very lowest.

    Suck it up dog?
No driver should be subject to that kind of truck!
And that includes the driver with a CPAP machine that gets saturated with a tobacco smell so bad that they can not get the proper rest.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

    Yes, I know.
And most of us on the road now also smoke.

But shouldn't the companies have some responsibility to clean the trucks up, at least to a certain degree?

You'd probably build up a tolerance to it if you started smoking. :yes2557:

Yes they should, but they would have to actually pay someone. Remember truck driver = free cleaning service, no miles driven

    Moosetek13 Thanks this.

I so love trucking. 150 miles through WTF winter storm on 70 this morning over the passes. Snowed 2 feet, WTF fog. Made it to my delivery, just emptied my dog food in pristine condition. Had a pizza from a local shop. Put the bunk heater on. Saw my brother for probably the first time in 10 years. Made a couple of bucks.

But I think I may turn in my truck, well sell it after reading this thread, because trucking just isn't fair.

Your health is just as much a result of your attitude as it is (even more so than) a result of what you do.

I've smoked for the last 30 years, done some heavy pot during about 20 of those years, and some heavy drinking as well.

I have high BP which is controlled by a mild med, but other than that I don't take any other medications.
How many others, at nearly 62, can say the same?
The only thing that is off in my blood tests is that I'm a little low on sodium. I guess I should salt my food more.

But I simply do not believe in getting sick. And it is that simple.
It has been nearly 3 years since I've had even a cold or flu, and I do not ever get any vaccinations.

People are so worried and obsessed about getting sick, and I think that worry brings it to them.
Always sanitizing and washing, but never letting your own body do what it was designed to do. We have an immune system for a very good reason, and we should not coddle it and protect it.
Our immune system should be allowed to protect us, not the other way around.
