I have read up on my history.

Prior to the Reconstruction period, the Republican Party was largely made up of what we today refer to as Liberals, while the Democratic Party held the more Conservative views.

After Lincoln's assassination, newly sworn in President Andrew Johnson scrapped Lincoln's original plan for Reconstruction for the South (a plan built heavily upon unification and reconciliation between the North and South),and embarked upon his own plan which biased heavily upon revenge (including carpetbaggers and forcing rapid change upon Southern aristocratic culture)

During this time, the more socially Liberal elements of the Republican party shifted over to the Democrat side of the aisle, while the Conservative elements joined the Republicans.

By TODAY'S political standards, both Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt (founder of the National,Park system and an avid environmentalist) would have campaigned on the Democratic tickets, not Republican. Too many of today's Republicans forget the polarity shift that occurred in the late 1800's.

Heck, most of TODAY'S Republicans wouldn't have even voted for the great Republican Hero Ronald Reagan! By today's standards, Reagan would be considered too Liberal and he was the figurehead for the entire Neo-Con movement.

I actually did read a history book or two.

 

Somebody was working on biometrics for firearms. Firearm wouldn't work unless it read the right fingerprint or something. Don't know if anything was produced, or if it became sci-go pie in the sky research.

 

My agenda......is to stop people dying in such a stupid way.

I could care less how it is done and if it is done by the right or left.

If you feel that is a tacky and classless agenda then you have a serious problem.

 

I refuse to believe that this wasn't politically motivated just because the target, country music fans, are largely white, conservative Republicans.

 

Just an outside theory: I wonder if the girlfriend/wife is/was being held for ransom overseas?

I remember watching a piece on NBC once about a family that was abducted right off the beach in the South Pacific and they kept making ransom demands to the husband/father in the states.

Also: how do these terrorist groups "claim responsibility"? It's not like they have an office or a dedicated fax line. Company letterhead.
