Actually my last job I did exactly that- put that they cannot contact my current employer - and I got hired on anyway.

    Aamcotrans and Mark_2wain Thank this.

True, but you could also do the SOHO lunch in combination with The Crazy Eddie Maneuver, where you leave the country for a place with no extradition treaty.

Wonder if Argentina still has that law that if you marry and Argentine citizen, you can't be deported. Remember the "Great Train Robbery" in England? One of those robbers did just that.

Aamcotrans, tucker and slow.rider Thank this.

LOL. But I'd just as soon skip the whole marriage business. Otherwise I'd have to do another Crazy Eddie SOHO lunch to get out of Argentina.

    Aamcotrans Thanks this.

I had that happen to me got three calls in one day from my current employer at the time asking me why I was leaving and if they had done something to make me unhappy. Felt nice of them to try and find out. It wasn't anything to due with them was just wanting to try the local thing didn't work out and I went back but I did give two weeks but I was going home that weekend and they just told I could go ahead and clean out my stuff so I went ahead and started the new job the following week.

As desperate as these companies are for drivers, if they're only going to have you for 2 weeks , they should do everything in their power, to do what they should have done all along to prevent you from quitting, and make it the best 2 weeks of your career. Any dispatcher who plays the short sighted game of spite, and decides its better to cut you loose or mess with you, should be fired immediately for being stupid. But like the others said...travel light, and make sure you have the resources to get home from anywhere. Good luck!

Sometimes that prospective company contacting them to verify employment works in your favor. I got a nicer truck more suited to the kind of running I wanted to do (day cab vs sleeper) and a promise of a new run they were working on putting together for me. That run fell through, though, and we parted on good terms...even got a ride home from the terminal manager.

Stop looking for an excuse to skip the 2 week notice.

Lots of people here with absolutely no self respect.

You get fired without notice you did something wrong. Yes give two weeks. They cannot legally leave you stranded.

I worked in Alaska for years but when I left they had to fly me back home.

Bull. They can leave you whever they want. Out at a truckstop in the middle of nowhere. They can fly/taxi a driver in, toss all your stuff on the ground and take off with the truck.
    100% perfectly legal.
