...And then brand him with something they like to call "service failures" when he can't pull off the impossible.

Have never worked there. But the methods of a lot of otr companies are the same. And the carrot In front of the donkey is a heavily used practice with all of these bonuses they claim to offer. But will quickly take away for some b/s reasons.

What a pathetic life these con artists lead!
Really tho, their whole "business plan" consists of continually screwing drivers, constantly looking for fresh meat to con and lie to.
Drug dealers have a more legitimate business plan than a lot of these trucking companies.
One point a lot of guys overlook about these shady operations is they are usually fronts for money laundering or tax write offs. If you are scratching your head wondering why a company keeps going even though they turn over drivers constantly there is usually something crooked going on in the background.

My biggest problem with "mega fleets" is mileage pay. They expect drivers to do a lot of work for free. Fueling their trucks, inspecting their trucks twice a day, waiting to load/unload, minor repairs such as changing a light on a trailer etc. Anytime a driver is logging on duty not driving they are providing labor to a company for no compensation. "If the wheels ain't turning, you ain't earning." Thank about how much time you spend doing things that benefit the company while the truck is parked. Not to mention that the pay structure of trying to get as many miles as quickly as possible to maximize earnings naturally incentivizes reckless driving.

alot of things can define a bad carrier employer in trucking.

    1. bad trucks. i had one small company of about 5 to 8 trucks, the guy hired me expect me to drive a piece of junk truck that was a safety hazard and a dot violation's that he didn't want to fix. i rejected that employer.

    2. bad pay. when i was with werner 27 cents a mile split so really only like 13 cents a mile the truck moved i was doing teams, and on top of that the company shorted the drivers like 7 to 10 percent of the miles each trip, so if it was a 1000 mile trip the company would give us credit for like 920. then after working for them i found local jobs hourly pay 19 an hour which payed much more and i lived a much better lifestyle than i did when i was at werner. also even other otr companies i found since then were, otr but payed atleast 40 cents per mile and i got to get the truck to myself, and it was dedicated.

    3. some companies like werner are random for the most part, you don't know where you going and when, and you coudl sit places for your reset. this is bad compared to dedicated, where you are never really waiting you know where you are going and coming back, everytihng is more organized and clean and you can live a better lifestyle while doing otr. yeah you can get dedicated with werner, but i'm just saying dedicated compared to not dedicated can be a big difference in deciding good from bad.

    4. lifestyle. if you are local, some companies are flexible will let you work as many days as you want, if they are pretty flexible this is a great company in this regard. my local company was flexible, if i wanted to work 4 days a week they'd let me, if 1 day a week, they'd let me, if 6 days a week, they'd let me. some companies will have you just living a bad lifestyle minimum 3 weeks on the road, while another company will let you be home weekly.

    5. organization. some companies are not organized, they won't keep track of their empties, you will go on scavenger hunts for empties, and so on. my local company very organized, you would never have a trailer not there waiting for you to take back to the dc. another local company i worked for was not empty you'd rarely have empties to pick up and go on scavenger hunts regularly.

    6. w2 vs 1099 contractos vs staffing agency. i generally find you want to avoid, 1099 employers, and staffing agencies. they will be bad one way or another.

    7. safety. some companies will have you hauling fuel or petroleum for dirt cheap pay. and of course hauling fuel is more dangerous than dry vanning.
