Reefers have giant refriderators on them. You will go to a lot of grocery warehouses and cold storage places. Some can be tight. You are responsible to make sure your reefer runs at all times. When pulled reefers it was about 70/30 live load versus drop and hook. One thing to keep in mind, the reefer is always kicking on even while trying to sleep. You will get used to it, but when you get home will be hard to sleep without the reefer. At least it was for me.
Dry van is just that a van with loaded goods. Can haul anything in those. Loads can be hazmat. Wont pull a lot of hazmat in the reefer section. It is quiter when you sleep at night and will, more than likely, have more customers to visit then with reefer.
I pulled reefers right out of school and learned so much more than if pulling vans. It is a lot harder, but the experience it a lot more valuable.
If you want reefers check out Prime. They are one of the best training outfits and run all reefers and some flatbeds. -

No problem. A few more things I thought of, a lot of the grocery warehouses are in the Northeast, which just, flat out sucks, if you are new. Want to learn to really drive go up there in the winter time.
With reefers as well you will be spening time getting trailer washouts. Essentially, giant car washes for semi trailers.
Either way you go, good luck. Don't be afraid to ask questions here. That is how you learn.
