Currently I do local wharf work (containers) and im home every night and weekends off, and i luv it! in the past I have done various jobs including roadtrain work and B-Double work, my longest every run was 36 hours straight from central OZ to north Queensland with no rest break until the 33 hours mark where i just had to pull over and have a cold shower under a water tap in a country town in the community recreational park, man i have never been so tired in my life, when i got to my destination and home, i felt physically ill had a massive head ache, could not eat and could not sleep, but after about 6 beers and then a feed i was able to sleep, I slept for about 16 hours had another feed and a few beers and went back to bed..NEVER DOING THAT AGAIN

I got a question, if you could drive for an excellent company, make good money, be home once a week, BUT it was only for 24 hours or so, would you do it?
No days off for a real break seems like you'd be very tired all the time, and seems like your time off with your family wouldn't be quality.
But I'm asking from your experience, Can it be done? What's it like, if you've done that schedule before? Is it better than being away 10 days but then off for a solid 2 days (with another excellent company)?
These are the decisions I'm trying to make right now; offers from a few good companies with different schedules from each other. I need to pick soon! Thankful to have offers, being in FL.

I run regional and get home every 9-12 days for 2.5 days off. I thought about doing local intermodal but would have a one hour commute each way, and then would be running around Los Angeles all day in traffic for 14 hours a day. It would be too stressful. I like getting out on the open road. About every couple months I take the wife out with me. What would be cool is to get a regional run where I could get home every weekend, though the paychecks would most likely be smaller.

yeah i don't mind the regional thing, but I'm considering a company that you're home every week but only 24 hours (not 34) then you're back out again. But everything else about the company is great reputation

You guys are crazy. Over the road life sucks compared to local jobs that gets you home every night.

Yep. I'm running local food delivery in Pennsylvania and man, they can get sixteen hours a day out of you without technically breaking the law. There's a few companies around here that do just that. And it's hand truck loads out of the trailer, up some restaurants two flight stairwell, down the next guys' Bilko doors, across the parking lot at the next one.... Man it's exhausting. I've had my share of seven or eight pm nights, followed by three am mornings.. God bless coffee!Wargames Thanks this. -
I'm running 7-12s, no big deal. But off road, ugh. I couldn't get the #### truck to go (auto). Had to ask a kid I trained. Put the brake on! It's time.

What I did was transfer from day cab commuting flatbedding to a sleeper type flatbedding situation. That improved my ability to maintain power through the flatbedding work and enjoy a bit of rest at any time.
If you are working hard, making money etc Being tired is not a problem. Just remember that your family cannot be chasing after you with honey do this honey do that etc... for a while anyhow.
