I have been in school through WIOA in Chicago for the last month. The question I have is I prefer to stay local but all the jobs that I see online on sites like Indeed all require some experience, some as long as 2 years. I would like to drive a dump truck locally but is that a pipe dream for a new graduate?

Thanks for any advice in advance..

These aren't dump truck jobs, but might get some local/regional work:
West Side Transport - has dedicated runs and a guaranteed minimum weekly paycheck; something like $1000.00 weekly where you can make more, but not less.
Fastenal - may have some openings for local/regional.
FFE (Frozen Food Express) - may have something local/regional. Terminal in Chicago.
Food service companies have local and hire new cdl grads; $55K - $70K. All these foodservice companies have been running ads all over the country for new grads/cdl permit holders, to start out as "Driver Associates" or "Driver Helpers" then graduate to "First Seat Driver" after they learn how everything is done.
    Reinhart Foodservice
    McLane Foodservice
    Sygma Network

Ignore "experience required" on any ads or websites. Companies bend those rules for a good applicant.

Most dump companies in Chicago you are going to need experience... If your looking for local work try YRC to get a year or so of driving experience...

Easiest way to kill a career is to ignore the fact that what you want REQUIRES experience. Hmmm. I wonder why.

As I mentioned in your other thread, if you start out in Flatbed (or even tanks, like me!) your horizons will broaden. Proportionately to the work you put in.
China is right, Food Service is doable especially if you are young(er...) unlike me, haha! Look at some of @Mike2633 's posts... Random LTL thread and such.... he's kicking bootay in that line of work, and home regularly.
If you DO go with a mega, and you DO want to look at flats, I'd go Maverick before Werner. In your other thread.
Best wishes; welcome to the 'world' of it all!

Yeah.. It might be best even for 6 months to stay away from local to get experience. Just don't know how I feel about staying away from home for an extended amount of time.. but sometimes you just have to man up. Thanks for your reply.
