Just wondering if any others have ever had an oil filter come loose, i didn't change the oil on the Kenworth, 60 series Detroit but after nearly 11 months it starts leaking, i needed to give it almost a 3/4 turn to tighten it and on our combine about a week ago it also came loose, it has a Sisu engine in it and i was the one that did the oil and filter change on it, i actually used a filter strap to tighten it, not over tight either, it just seems strange to have 2 different engines both having a loose filter, our combine has done it once before though. I was thinking vibration but after nearly 11 months on he Kenworth i doesn't make sense, just wondering if anyone else has had this happen before as we have never had it happen before, thanks for any replies and thoughts.

I don't recall that ever happening to me but I have heard other drivers telling about a loose filter but usually after the filters were changed.

That's why on airplanes we put safety wire on the oil filter.

We only run the truck at most 5000 km's, use it on the farm to haul grain in the summer and again in the fall, change it once every year.

Yea, I've had filters get loose, however once snug they should stay that way for at least a few weeks. If not change out filters because the threads might be stretched on the filters. As the one guy said you can safety wire the filters. After you put the filter on take a large hose clamp and tighten it on the filter, then use wire and attach it from the left over tail of the hose clamp to a part of the truck engine. Don't attach the wire to a part of the truck that doesn't flex with the engines torque or you'll just end up snapping the wire. Good luck.

We've got a fleet of 60 series and the rear filter always leaks a little. Tech's always check them and they are tight. ?

Sounds like it may be more common than you think, One of my fleets had a 05 sterling with a 60 series and the truck had a major oil leak at the right side losing most of its oil on the road. . The customer towed it to the dealer and all they found was at oil filter leaking a the seal due to a " loose " filter. The truck was on the road for three weeks after the service before the failure.
