They sell those brass pot cleaners at many truckstops. Like steel wool but made from brass, and they don't scratch glass. They take bugs off quite well and you can use them dry with no cleaners.

I was thinking of something with a longer handle.

Those are made to be soft. Little abrasion to be had.

A car washing brush is too soft in your opinion? What about a broom head?

Yea, we have one at work. They are good at getting the mud off the rear window, but do nothing for bugs.
    Personally I use this..

Although lately I've been simply drenching the windshield with water, letting it soak for 5 minutes and then cleaning the windshield.

That's what I do. Soak the windshield w bug juice, top off the tanks, then scrub the bugs off.

I carry a bottle of dawn dish soap in the truck
Just some on the supplied scrubber and clean windows as normal the bugs will come off easy
With an extreme amount of bugs wet the windshield before starting the pump then while fueling scrub the bugs off

    Works great for me anyways

No, I don't recall whether I got it at home depot or Ace. The handle unscrews.

I also use Rain-X. Rain-X keeps the windshield clear not just when raining, but also when snowing and it keeps a lot of the slushy dirty muck off the windshield that passing cars spray on the windshield after a snow storm. It also helps a little with bug splat.

The only Rain-X that I find works, is the original Rain-X.

Rain-X from Blue Beacon and the stuff you put in the washer bottle doesn't seem to be as good.

P.S.: Have you noticed Blue Beacon has been trying to trick us into upsales on wax. They have the regular wax at $4 and the Rain-X wax at $8.

I've gotten to the point where (to make it easier) I just tell them to wash tractor only, no trailer, no engine, no wax that's easier than saying I want a wax and then have the guy try to twist what I said, from the $4 wax to the $8 wax.

The problem with most of these places is you all on forced fuel routing stops. You don't necessarily need to become an O/O, but you could find a company that does not have forced fueling stops. The last company I worked at had a list of fueling stops and you could choose where to stop along your route. If I pulled in and there was a long line, screw this, and off I go to the next fuel stop.

Plain ol' Turtle Wax is cheaper, and works just as well as Rain-X. Plus, if you have a show truck, waxing your glass will make it look invisible (it won't reflect light).

Just make sure you first clean the glass with ammonia (or alcohol), and wipe with newspaper or paper towels. You'll know all the old buildup is gone when it gets harder to move the paper across the glass.
