The ones I got with the trailer are steel. I have the stuff in the shop to make an aluminum set but haven't done it yet.
-
I honestly wouldn't. I cut my teeth hauling pipe and have bent the crap out of steel ones. I use 3" rectangular tubing 1/4" thick. I don't even think 3" channel is tough enough. Just my honest opinion.
-
When tubing gets bent does it tear the stake pockets of the trailer?SAR Thanks this.
-
And it's not us. It's the forklift drivers rushing loading/unloading that will tear stuff up
cke Thanks this. -
It more than likely won't if you chain your pockets. It still can though. Especially if you're hauling 7" on up.cke Thanks this.

Personally-ill use nothing but steel.
Lepton1, cke and strollinruss Thank this. -
The place I load still puts a forklift on the opposite side of the trailer with the forks on the deck. I'm not sure why they want pipe stakes but they do. I have only used them 5 times in 2 1/2 years and the pipe has always been bundled 2 together. I have more problems storing these #### stakes than anything else. They always vibrate to the door and lock the handles.
-
I took a 2x4 and cut three, 8inch pieces and places them up against where the door shuts, that way when my pipe stakes vibrate close to the door I'm still able to open them...
-
I will take a picture in the morning and post it just in case... maybe I didn't explain the 2x4 deal good enough... My next trailer I'm getting the new style boxes that latch on the outside.
