Hi,
Going from ABQ, NM to Chandler, AZ.
Looking at the map, I can see that going on AZ 377,AZ277 and AZ 260 instead of I-17 will save me a good chunk of miles.
Does anyone know how good, or bad those roads are, compared to I-17?
Downhills, uphills, two lane, four lane?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

4 lane once you get past Payson on AZ87. 40-60 4 lane - 2 lane on AZ260 and 377 is all 2 lane. Depends on what time of day you'll be arriving as to how bad it is. Morning (6:30-9:00) will be bad on I-17. Snowbirds will be coming in from every direction which can make the 2 lane bothersome at this time of year.
Toss up. you're only saving miles and not time by taking the back roads, unless you deliver in teh far east valley.albert l Thanks this. -
Agreed I've never come out ahead trying to take that shortcut

Thanks, I will be going on I-17 it's going to be past midnight, and I never hit a traffic at that time of night.
Thanks againfargonaz Thanks this. -
Yep, good choice. Mind you, I-17 south bound is mostly downhill, but it's only 6% in a few short stretches.

So glad to read that a driver is looking at the Road Atlas instead of a electronic gps.I know im getting old,30 yrs of using maps n road atlas's,i have a deep seated hatred about those things, similar to alot of drivers hating e-logs.
I enjoy sipping on a coffee-while she's warming up n Mapping out my run.I could never get used to looking off the road at little tv screen-that might put me on a boarwalk-or a dead end road-or a 20 ton bridge-LOL.
Yes sir-watch them snowbirds.
