Right. Doesn't matter whose name is on the door. If you're good, you will keep working. If you suck, you will slowly starve to death.

    You were l
Legal and you do not need liability insurance unless the company is hauling super size and requires it. Each state is different. A CDL Class A driver is automatically Certified to escort, in any state except NY. Escort as much as you want too, but try to get Certified so you can go to more states. The trip you took was completely legal. And I've been hauling Oversize since 1985.

Not true. Liability insurance or the pilot car is only required to escort super-size. Not over size. Get your facts straight.

This won't let me edit. I said "for the pilot car" not "or" the pilot car. An escort car o ly needs liability insurance for super size escort. Not over size. End quote.

Most states do not require the pilot car to be certified, but they do need to have specific operational equipment. This equipment may include: flags, flashing lights, cones, orange vests, fire extinguishers and other safety equipment. However in some states the pilot car must be certified, currently in Utah, Washington, New York and Florida the pilot car must be certified by the state. In Pennsylvania the pilot car will need to have specific insurance coverage requirements.
