Looking for some advice on insurance. I am looking to join a friend under his authority but I have my own truck and trailer. I was wondering How does insurance work in this situation? Do I need to get insurance to protect my truck and trailer and he provides insurance for the cargo part or does he need to provide the insurance and cargo insurance?

If you run under his Authority you will be on his Liability/Cargo policy. You will have to get Physical Damage for your truck/trailer and Bobtail Liability for when you are not under dispatch...

He has to add you on his insurance, but you can get your own physical damage. I've done this in the past and either charged my friend what the cost was and paid him a higher %, or paid it myself and paid him a smaller %. My buddy was semi retried and didn't want to work all the time so he paid me weekly what his insurance was they way I wasn't out of pocket if he only wanted to work half a week or not at all.
