Hi - I'm brand new here and to the trucking industry. I'm in the process of looking at a truck leasing business that is for sale, and I'd like to get some thoughts from you guys. This particular business focuses on intermodal transport from the south east ports to some of the rail stations inland. The leasing model in this business is essentially a profit share on what the truck produces. So I would provide the trucks and take care of their, fuel, insurance, maintenance, etc., and the driver would simply drive the routes. The "Lease" payment is strictly a share of the profits the truck produces.
Do any of you know of any similar arrangements with companies out there today? Good/bad for the driver?
Any thoughts on intermodal specifically in the south east US? Growing or declining market?
Is it harder to get a driver interested in being more of an owner/operator on a lease model than it is to simply bring on an hourly employee?
Any info or thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Todd
