well i am doing jb hunts lease and am actually makeing reallly good money doing it for those of you that are interested in knowing.:biggrin_2555: lol I've been in this lease right now for around 3 months and outta the 3 months i have had one week that i actually lost money. and the reason that i lost money was do to a truck break down. the load was suppose to deliver on monday but truck broke down and delivered on wednesday. so the following week i mad up for it. I am on percentage pay ( 61% of the load) which isnt a lot but i am doing good with it. yes their is alot of cheap friehgt here at jb but you have to choose what you haul and where you haul it too. for example i live in west virginia and i know that their is usually nothing coming in or outa of their for jb, ( no yard in nitro,wv anymore) so i usually take a cheap load, around .90 to a $1.00 a mile just to get back out in the freight lanes so i can start making descent money again. but i shoot the truth so i aint gonna lie 90% of drivers ( roughly ) that do jb's lease fail by either coming in thinking like a company driver or 95% jb hunt fault cause they promise you miles but dont, cant, or wont deliver! i was a company drivers for 1 1/2 years for ol' jb and i know how their system works, either mileage or percentage. on mileage, once you make so many miles one week they "cut" you off so they can boost another drivers miles! then on percentage once you make so much $$ Money $$ they cut you off, plain and simple. its what you do with the money that you make! when my truck stop's i dont idle ( unless in traffic like chicago )
i think right now my idle is around 10% to 15%... i have a little heater i put in this truck to keep it warm on those cold nights and days while i am in it. yes, their is a lot of things that i dont agree about jb but i actually have a fleet manager that know what he is doing and how its done and how the game is played. before he sends me a load he will call me and ask me if i want it. if its usually a cheaper load ( $1.00--$1.20 ) he usually haves me a better haul on the other end, so me and my f/m actually work together and communicate really well. which is unusually hear of.:biggrin_25525:!!!! well thanks for reading my little update. if your guys have any questions please feel free to ask and i will answer the best that i can. And yes i realize that a bunch of you guys/ gals are reading these have had their outs with good ole' jb. :biggrin_2551::biggrin_2552::biggrin_25512:

    Hey Rich :biggrin_25525:

I would like to read your thread, keep it going week to week and update us how you are doing. I realize that most people only ##### about JB, but I drive for Swift, been here as a company driver for 20 months and I have no complaints. The job is what you make of it and I too have a great DM and fleet manager. I thought about the lease, Swift started pushing it real hard a few months ago, but seeing the way the economy and freight has been, I just couldn't do it. Looking forward to more of your posts, and good luck to you, hope you keep getting the miles.

Just wondering, why did you put this in the "bad companies" thread......
maybe you can move it over to "good company" thread.....
It comes through in your post that you are for the most part happy with JB, and most of us have no problem with them.
Either way, look forward to your posts.

well not really running the miles! Like i said i make 61% of what the load pays. i am at the main terminal right now in lowell,ar and i have run a total of 1700 miles for the week and have made a total of $2615.32. outta that after truck payment, fuel and all the little stuff jb has tacked on i have made a profite ( before taxes ) of $1054.32. now i could keep on moving with they have offered me a load today already but i am wanting to speak with my f/m tomorrow ( monday ). he's taking me out to lunch and is setting me up with a few things. just to let everyone that reads this know i went through orientation with 14 other guys and their is me and another left with the lease the rest have quit. i opted for percentage because i know from experience that jb doesnt run u the miles so i know without a doubt in my mind i can make more money on %. my biggest check for one week here has been a total of $1920.32 and the smallest ( besides the week that i lost ) have been $34.12 but that was because i went home on wednesday morning and stayed home until the following monday, (payroll ends on monday night at midnight at jb) which isnt very good business sense staying home so long. but that was my choice.:yes2557: plus when i am out here on the road i usually stay out for around 3 to 4 weeks at a time but that is also my choice. i am not forced to stay out that long but i do cause i have no kids and a wife that works as much and as "hard" as i do.

so i will keep everyone posted on how this is going for me and will keep shooting the truth good or bad right or wrong. thanks for reading everyone

    I appluad your honesty here.

But please tell me what the incentive is behind this move?

The only upside I can see, is the ability to pick your loads. And as you have clearly stated, your truck and rates dictate that.

My check was $860 plus last week...after taxes and insurance. As a company driver...but not for JB.

easy, since i was 6 years old i wanted to be a truck driver.... all my life i looked up to everyone in those big trucks. when i grew up i got my cdl and have been driving for a total of 4 years now at this point. i always new i could make it if i ever got a chance to get my own truck. i have a mind set as an " owner operator " and not as a company driver.
like you said the only ability i have is to pick my own loads and when i take a notion to go to the house i can just up and go with no questions asked. ( well actually they ask when i'm gonna come back out ) i appreciate your question and your input from reading what i had to write. i've always valued everyone's oppion on this web site but sometimes you have to take a blind step into the unknown hoping for the best.

It seems to me $1000 after truck payment and fuel and the add-ons, in only 1700 miles, seems to me thats good, especially in todays economy. Keep it up!!

I hear ads on the radio for them advertising percentage pay between 65% and 72%. Why are you only making 61%?
