Let's not forget the people who see the benefit but can't afford to carry insurance. Take a look at the individual marketplace offerings and you will realize that many people can afford health care or they can afford health insurance, but they cannot afford both.

ACA was born broken and it is getting more broken every year. What good is being "insured" when you can't afford the cost of seeing a doctor or the cost of any tests or prescriptions? Paying $10,000 a year for insurance that doesn't take effect until you spend another $6000 per family member is not reasonable. But it is, apparently, "affordable", the government says so.

I agree it's a problem with people not having insurance. It's not the employers responsibly to make sure you have insurance though, it's yours.

Another problem is nobody wants personally responsibility. Everybody expects the government or their employer to make sure their taxes get paid, have insurance, have retirement, tell them how many days they can take on vacation, and how many days they can be sick.

There has just gotten to where a fairly large segment of our population has been babied by Mom and Dad, and then expect the government and/or employers to take over when they are grown.

so if you dont get insurance through an employer where are you supposed to get it. in that case the only other option is single payer and we should already have that. if the choice is between having health insurance or paying the mortgage, guess what i am going to live without and what i am going to pay. my wife gets the health insurance so im lucky in that regards.

i still think its customary for an employee working full time to get vacation, sick time, and paid holidays. it should be part of my pay, particularly at $16 per hour. $16 per hour with no benefits? not really all that great. the only thing that makes up for it, is a large percentage of my hours is "rate" pay.

Or you could do that AND take the time off your company pays you for! That's what i do.

In addition to the 6 weeks vacation, every Monday holiday there is, as well as 10 personal days and 6 sick days I get free per year (not to mention the free day I get for not calling out every 6 months), I take a few weekends for bike week. Gotta take those "mental Health" days when you need them

    I guess I'm "not wired correctly " ;-)

You buy private insurance, if your company doesn't provide it. I know it's expensive but you at least must have catastrophic coverage. If you find out tomorrow you have cancer or some other bad illness, you want to be covered. If not, you'll be broke the rest of your life, and if the illness takes you, you're loved ones will be harnessed with an enormous debt.

There's no doubt health insurance is screwed up. I have private insurance and my rates have tripled since Obamacare and my deductible has went up also. So I'm paying 3 times as much for less coverage.

Single payer sounds good on the surface, until you get into the details. Name one time that the government has ran something and not screwed it up, look at the VA for example or other countries on universal healthcare. Do you really want the Dr working on you to be a government employee or have to wait up to 3 months to see a Dr, all the while you are sick, getting worse, or die waiting?

I'm not against paid vacations or other employee benefits, I just don't think the employer should be forced to pay it. If you can get it, great. If not, you have to decide if you want to work there or go somewhere else.

I'm just a free market person and I think the free market should decide.

It all depends on the company.. My health insurance is 32 dollar a week... 80/20... 50 dollar deductible... 160 percent 401k match and 3 percent stock match as well as 5 weeks off a year PLUS 9 paid holidays... If you work on the holiday they pay you out your average the last month......
