True...Ca and other states will pull you over for doing the speed limit if your holding up traffic.

No big deal Bones...when you have no control over your speedlimit (by being governed) its not your fault.
IMO I think no truck should be governed! If a driver wants to break the law and get a ticket it his/her fault!
If they are gonna govern a truck, it should be set 5mph over the posted speed limit in the fastest state they run. So if you run KY the truck should be set at 75mph, if you just run OH it should be set at 60mph. this way the truck can run with traffic and won't be a hazard on the road. Nothing more dangerous than a truck running 62 in a 70 when most people are running 75.... -
Yeah I too believe there should be no speed limiters. All those 62 mph trucks do is create a hazard on the road.
The fastest 5% and the slowest 5% are more likely to be in wrecks. Proven Fact. Therefore it is best to run with the flow of traffic weather that means speeding or going slower than the speed limit. -
On being singled out. I have heard it in other cases and was told explicitly by a judge myself that others breaking any law, including speed law does not absolve any individual. If your guilty, you are guilty pure and simple.
Also, the police are not required to stop the entire group, nor are they required to stop any particular member of a group of speeders, for instance they don't have to stop the lead speeder. They can pull over any vehicle they feel was violating the law. Same thing, if you are guilty, you are guilty regardless of the circumstances.
There may be courts and/or cops that treat the flow of traffic differently, but flow of traffic is not the law. The speed limit is the law.
Broken down to me just like that as I was ordered to pay a $350 fine for speeding in a taxi. Cured me of rolling with the pack.
So we'll see what happens when I get pulled over. I'll keep this forum informed.Last edited: Nov 16, 2008

'preciate it.. and a very very valid point there - different jurisdictions treat the 'flow of traffic' differently.
Obviously, Kalifornia is in favor of rolling roadblocks - as are places like Illinois. Any place that explicitly sets a separate speed limit for trucks, I think, will be more than happy to hammer you for "going with the flow".
Doesnt' make it safer, though. -
I think it's the safest way. but it also depends on state and local laws.

i try to stay in the far right lane if possible. there are times i get tired of getting over and back repeatedly so i stay in the middle lane. when i'm in the middle i keep an eye in the mirrors for another truck coming up on me and i get over before slowing them down unless i am already passing someone. it pisses me off to no end when someone is riding in the middle and does not get over for faster traffic, so i try to not do that to someone else. if there is a reason i am in the middle, i will usually call to the truck(s) behind me and let them know why and that i will be out of the way soon. it's all about courtesy.....some just don't care though.

well I run a governed pumpkin truck set at *cough* *cough*. Mind you, I get passed by plenty of other drivers who love the ungoverned feeling...the sound of money flushing down the drains as their mpg goes down the tube is exhilarating for em.
Anywho....I don't run into many situations on my route where I have a 3 lane swath. One is on a series of hills and I generally stay in the middle lane. As the road goes from 2 to 3 lanes, I stay in the middle because I know since Im so light that 95% of the time, im going to pass them easily going up the hill. Heck, sometimes ill even get into the left hand *no trucks* lane, in order to pass a couple of trucks that are taking up the middle and right lanes. -
SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT!!
i will say that i only drive in northern cali and oregon (no big cities up here) and when there's a 3 lane section i ALWAYS take the right lane unless i'm passing (and sometimes to pass the JERK that wants to drive slow in the middle lane)
p.s. my truck is governed at 59
