In the office today.....Finishing up a few things, I decided,Let me check out the Spot market these days from those brokers on Flat/step work..........

    Why Texas ?
    Fountain of youth?
    Big State Big Hiighways?
Big Steaks and chops waiting for you at the truckstop?

every Direction out of the Midwest paying $2.80- $4.00 per mile from brokers on Spot- Yet $1.90 to Texas??
Short hauls.Long Hauls Going East West.North or Southeast-Southwest Doing Well..

Yet,Firm on below $2.00 per mile inbound Texas.......

I Gotta see some of these Replies........

I'm Guessing "Well,Im Fine to Dallas for $1900- I'm doing Ok and Its a "Fun" trip going to TEXAS-YEEHAW"

I think the masses of moron drivers at the mega fleet request going south for the winter months. Obviously the lot of them cannot handle this trucking thing in the dry, and snow scares the bejesus out of them.

Every year around this time this topic seems to come up in the new driver forum; Every other newbie thinks the road to riches is running I10 in the southern states during the winter. The mega dispatchers just oblige the sheeple and run the prices down.

Do the prices in the north go up since everyone wants to go south?

Winter is our best time of year, at least in Michigan, rates shoot through the roof. I run expedite, got off the OTR thing a few years ago, Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Money is very very good in the Winter months. And I have no desire to go to Texas.

Rates to and from TX are low year round, not just in cold months

Agreed, Texas is a stink-hole for interstate freight but every time I say that some cowboy gets his panties in a bunch.

I think what this question refers too, is as winter comes up and the seasonal Christmas surge approaches freight rates slowly climb up in many locations. Texas is not one of those locations.

I have never seen good rates to Texas, unless it is something specialized, which I have hauled, and even some of those rates stunk when all was considered.

Been to Texas 3 times in 2 1/2 years from Chicago. 1 was my first week with my own truck and didn't know any better. The other 2 times was for a direct coustemer and I was the last person on the list. (Wink).

All 3 times nothing but crap coming back out.

Could be quite simply cause its easier to find reloads going back so some may be willing to for go the mileage rate in exchange for return loads.
