In some segments, this is possible but only as a result of long term falsification habits. Regardless, if the HOS rules and your billing and business model results in lost revenue for the drivers and company, then somebody is going to have to put their salesmen and boss hats on and get to work changing things.
But in many cases, much of the "loss of production" will be recovered once they get smarter about time management. ELogs will separate the smart ones from the dumb ones real quick, and they figure it out and adapt or they don't.KANSAS TRANSIT and nax Thank this. -
Well, that is a given. But the interim is going to be very painful, and few of you guys have mentioned the other drawbacks to all of this, like PARKING.Bakerman Thanks this.

Does that make sense? All they have to do is mind the clock and drive. Sleep when off hours, take a reset if necessary. Trip plan around the problems each day ahead of time. -

ELDs are simple. If you doing things you should not be doing then their will be a new way of driving. People must like being victims. Because that what drivers talk about. Use the ELD to your advantage. We can charge shipper and receives for waiting time. You get paid to sit or they can learn to load or unload in 2 hours.
We had a customer dispatch would send me to at end of the day when I only had 4 hours left. This customer always took longer the 4 hours to load. They don't have overnight parking and the log Dept says we can't use PC because we are loaded and no place to drop the trailer. I told them I'm not got getting screwed again on this deal. First they told me the customer did not care. That's not my problem if they don't care. So I finally got the ok to tell the customer how many hours have available and if they can't load me. Then I can close the trailer doors and leave ! Problem solved. Next time dispatch will also learned to stop sending me to customer that can't load in a reasonable time or send me in first thing in the morning and I'll sit for 11 hour if they want because we are suppose to get $20 a hour detention after the frist 2 hours.KANSAS TRANSIT and x1Heavy Thank this. -
A couple thoughts here. Money issues aside, Uber or Lyft isn't available everywhere. Most big towns, sure, but there's a lot of small and even medium sized towns and everything in between where that just isn't an option.
As for bobtailing, how many truck stops have "no dropped trailers" signs? More than a few. It doesn't seem strictly enforced in most places as there's always a few of them on the lot, but as a former heavy wrecker driver who picked a lot of dropped trailers at the local Loves, you won't catch me taking that risk. Knowing how the other side works makes me extra cautious about breaking those sort of rules, because you never know what the mentality of the towers are in that area.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Emlenton PA used to accept dropped trailers provided you sign in sheet and handed keys to kingpin and glad hand locks over to manager at that wonderful old truckstop there. And the female company... It was possible to consider 15 kids in about that many years once or twice with a good girl.
However... life is not always that ... accomodating.
