    Cents-per-mile is always my last question when I change companies and may not even ask at all. It's not important. What's important is the accessorial pays you get when not driving. I took a job that paid .36 cpm, and at the end of the year had made $65K. Couldn't make near that if cents-per-mile were the only pay involved.

    You sure have trouble with wait times.

    Don't go running reefer then. In a meat plant like Fort Collins cutting to special order sometimes results in a 3 day and 3 night wait in the bullpen until the load is ready for you to collect and run to Texas or some such...

    I worked for swift for 2.5 yrs. Quit 2 yrs ago. There might be times you will have to wait a day but swift pays layover after 24 hrs. You will have to ask you manager for this. Same with detention pay( first 2 hrs at a dock is free). Longest I waited was 2 days. Swift had me go from Sumner wa. To fontana ca empty to relocate. Your first year is gonna be rough, no matter what company you go to. Just learn as much during school and training.
    Btw... as far as trolls.. me and moosetek13 worked for swift. Moosetek13 still does

    If your doing warehouse work eg from shipper to Walmart, Costco, Albertsons expect to wait a while it really just depends on when you get to your delivery point and what time slot you have, then you usually have to organise lumping quotes and wait to be unloaded so yeah 1/2 an hr would be a short time actually i'd allow for more like 2 hrs. then there's the waiting time for reloading, unless its all drop and hook then there is no wait times. only transit times from yard to yard and how quickly you can hook up to a trailer.

    And then there are circumstances like I had today.

    I was scheduled to pick up about 3 hours from my delivery, and nearly 180 miles away so it would be tight if at all possible.
    I was delayed in heavy traffic so my delivery was an hour later, and there was no empty trailer for my next load. That took even more time away.
    My next load ended up being rescheduled for the next day, so I lost a day.

    But these things happen in trucking. Nothing is written in stone because there are so many variables.
    That is compounded during the winter months due to weather conditions.

    Always plan for 2 hour wait on live loads and unloads. If it's drop and hook, it should take about by a half hour. Finding an empty trailer is always an adventure. Lol. Just go in with a good attitude and don' get angry or impatient.

    Even a drop and hook can take an hour.
    Some of those DC's take a while to get around.

    If you work for Swift, be sure your home terminal will not be their Jurupa California terminal. That terminal has an office full of douchebags.
