I have nearly 15 years experience and am amazed at how carriers are equipping trucks nowadays. And not in a good kind of amazed.i currently drive an automatic Freightliner with DirecTV. I constantly see adds for companies that advertise autos for driver comfort. As an experienced driver I prefer manuals and can take or leave the TV.
My question to you other folks with a few years under your belt is this: what would you like to see in the truck?
How do you want company truck spec'd?

I love automatics and the other driver comfort amenities.I like doing 34 hour restarts in the truck vs. a motel, so the APU & television, etc. would make it nice & comfy.
After driving an automatic pulling tankers coast to coast, I would never want a stick shift again.RedBeardedT, striker, #1don and 5 others Thank this. -

Lots of drawers and cabinets (with doors, not curtains or nets), a large fridge/freezer, qaulity (pure sine) inverter in the 3kw range, cup holders, apu, folding/sliding desktop, upgraded seat and a toilet. There's my creature comfort list.
z32sean Thanks this. -
'Shaker Cascadia, DD15 factory set for 75mph, 10 speed manual, 3:55 rears, base company interior with the upgraded mattress.
A working truck that lets me do my job with a decent level of comfort. I'll add any additional comfort goodies (inverter, fridge, and so on myself) and I've made a bunch of money with the 'Shaker/Detroit combination.
I also lead a fairly minimalist lifestyle, and don't need much to be comfortable. I happily go weeks without seeing a television, I am almost completely incapable in the kitchen so cooking in the truck is a BAD idea, and I opt to make money over sitting around unnecessarily. Give me my 34 hr. reset to handle laundry and detail the truck and let me get back to work. I'll let you know if I need more time off eventually (like a few months).SoDel, misterG, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Toilet. Shower. Sink. Tv. Stove. 13 speed. 600 horses. 150 tanks. Nothing less then 6 mpg. No eld. Dpf. Def.

It's funny, nobody wants to get the input from the boss - i.e. the one paying for all these additional bells and whistles multiplied by however large the fleet is.
In fleet trucks, it about compromise and if the compromise does not make you happy then there are truck dealers all over the nation who will spec a custom truck to your liking and even maybe arrange financing.
But realistically for a 48/OTR driver? APU, paid satellite tv and radio, fridge/freezer, 1500+ watt inverter, auto or 13, onboard weight pressure gauges [truck and trailer fleet], TPMS, 70 mph foot/cruiseLast edited: Nov 2, 2017
z32sean and gentleroger Thank this. -
Also, I'd like to have a new truck that doesn't leak above the windshield. Is that too much to ask?
Stupid freightliner cascadia. I guess in Mexico where they build them, leaking is part of the cooling side of the HVAC systemmisterG, QuietStorm, spyder7723 and 2 others Thank this. -
Warranty should fix that.
