Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie, i leave out for my orientation next sunday the 15th with HO Wolding. It was a hard decision on who to go with, but i did a lot of homework and research. It has been a dream of mine to become a truck driver since I was a kid. I would always draw tractor trailers and couldn't wait to be a truck driver someday. Well all of that is coming true. I graduated NTTS in Liverpool NY a few weeks ago. I took my dmv test the second time this week and passed. I'm open to any advice that you all can give me. I want to be a safe, knowledgable driver out there. I know it doesn't stop after school, i've got a lot to learn. Well just wanted to introduce myself.
Hello All!! Just gettin into the industry.

Congratulations.
HO Wolding has been in business long before I came along in my time. I think you will like them. But like anything, it's the people you deal with in which it could be outstanding or it could be really bad depending on the situation with them.
I remember when I was fresh out of school myself and can relate to your position. I am not going to bombard you with all sorts of things. But I will emphasize that your first year, the most important and powerful word you will learn to use is "No." Especially if a dispatcher is being unreasonable. -
I agree with x1, H.O. has been around a long time. Used to be big time paper haulers, but that industry faded. They used to have those cabover Freightliners with the small drive tires, looked like they were always going uphill. ( I drove a truck very similar to these. Worst truck ever!) http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/macneil/p5a/ho_wolding_frtlnr.jpg ( thanks to Russ Macneil and hanks truck pictures for this) I think you'll do fine.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
OMG I clean forget about those....
Those were so called low profiles, all the rage back then until they were proven pretty inadequate. Then they swung the other way towards the so called super singles.. for more weight = more money...
I cannot imagine those tires under a 5th wheel these days, that plate has to be a certain height and there are other engineering considerations presented by them.
This is NOT a bash on Wolding at all. I drove a very similar model year cabover which was totally unrestricted and outrageously fast in my time. Nothing wrong with that COE as far as I am concerned except a tendancy to jackknife really quickly if the drives got loose in the rain during braking.201 Thanks this. -
Welcome and Godspeed!

The setback axle Freightliner cabover I drove, was just all wrong. Aside from inherent cabover blindspots on the right ( with even FIVE mirrors on the right, and still) it had an air ride cab, that "pogo-sticked" down the road, and the clutch, something with the air ride cab, there was absolutely no friction point. It was like one of those old "dog" clutches, in or out. Downright dangerous, it was. I suppose I got around in tight spots ok, like any cabover, but I hated that truck for almost a year.
I wonder why Wolding did that? Little bigger wagon?Last edited: Oct 6, 2017

I want to know about HO Wolding as a company and are they a good company
-
Hi Tezz, yes, HO is a very good company. Been around a long time. Used to be big paper haulers, but I believe general freight now. Mostly mid-west. I saw a lot of their trucks in Ohio. Hope you like the Windy City,,,

Congrats.
Ive probably seen you on the road while I was sitting at work (east taft road).
Seen lots of NTTS trucks roll by.
