No, was using that as an example because I have seen drivers out here complaining about not making it, a lot of times they had bad credit and either a small down payment or none at all. Thus, they got a 20% APR loan.

$1.80 to 2.00pm sounds great with power only program. I have a question what's your average length of load?
My friend ran from Cali to Midwest and average length of load was 1500 miles or over and he was making fairly 1.40 to 1.60.
And I really doubt prime lets you use their trailer for picking outside loads.

Average length is between 800-1200 miles. Yes Prime lets you use there trailers to pull an outside load. They charge a small fee to use them but you can use them. Most of the time I stay east of the I-25, basically don't go past Denver or Cheyenne unless I am heading home. Good freight out in the middle of this country!

Dude, This is what I've been dreaming about...wow

I cant believe there's $80/hr detention while all I hear is drivers whining how they dont get it.

I wonder if they will take my 1998 volvo (I can do either paper or elogs in this girl) in the mid-east coast region (MD-VA-NC-SC)

    I like this flexibility.

I personally know a dispatcher that's pissed off @ landstar but still gives them a load that goes 200 miles and pays $1200. Having access to a trailer for this would be awesome.

Shoot, a couple weeks ago I paid one of my guys almost $2,000 in detention for one week. There are times where I have taken a few weeks off to be at home and still was receiving a check because of detention paying out. Prime pays detention when the customer pays which is usually within 2-3 weeks.
No, 1998 is to old for what they'll let on. They require 6 years or newer on the truck.
Having the flexibility and consistent freight from Prime makes some nice profits :)

Yes, Prime is not paying spot market rates that we see right now on there loads, but lets be honest here, those rates are strong for a few months out of the year then drop come winter and spring time. By having Prime's contracts, you can almost guarantee a pretty level income all year long. Winter time comes around and I am still making what I did during the peak season. Makes it nice for predictability and takes a lot of stress out of it.

Red is right. Prime well let you use their trailer to pull outside freight. Call them & ask. They will tell you. You can believe him or not, doesn't change what he's doing & what those leased to him are doing.

There's a lot of carriers out here who allow their owner operators to do this. It's nothing new or unusual. Some are better to be leased on with than others. The devil is always in the details. Are they micro-managing every little thing or not so much so? Some claim they allow their operators to book outside loads then throw up all sorts of roadblocks when an operator tries to do it making it practically impossible. I have no idea what category Prime falls into. I truck like this and will never do it any other way. I like it. But it's not for everyone.

geesh those rates on the brokerage side are basically the same running under Primes authority with the lease trucks if you turn down the cheap stuff... I cleared $4200 2 weeks ago and averaged $3k a week after fuel and expenses with no truck payment while averaging around 2300 miles or less a week. More freedom on the brokerage but more responsibility. I was averaging $1.90 when I stayed in the northeast... Of course Prime will control your earnings while under their authority. I purchased a brand new 2013 Freightlinder Cascadia back in 2012 and paid if off in 4 years... You can build a fleet on their logistic side but reefer just has too many headaches with the claims. I'm leaving for a pure owner op carrier doing dry van. Been at Prime for 7 years and it was time to change. I know guys with their authority but use a dispatcher and clear $4k+ weekly while near home all the time... It can work but the grocery warehouses suck as far a appointment times.. Hard to get a normal nights rest....
