I've finally saved up enough to buy a 3rd truck outright, and just came to terms with a former co-driver of mine to run it.

I had planned on putting the truck on with me and my other truck here, but lately I've had a desire to put the third truck on somewhere else so that just incase something goes down here, I know I'm still producing.

that being said... where do ya'll go to look for opportunities for IC's? Everyone i know said craigslist but there has to be a better spot?

So you want to put the success or failure of your truck into some one else's hands and make them money at the same time? Think about it.

You just increased your capacity by 50%... lol

If you have your own authority why lease it to anyone? Why make 75 or 80% then how do ypu pay your driver % then he or she is making 25 or 28% of 75% or 80..
It's a recipe for disaster... you have your own authority? go out there and sell.
    Get your own freight

I don't have my own authority. I bring enough home running on their authority.

    So you'e running 3 trucks..
I'l give you the benefit of the doubt you'e making 80%....and losing 20% on each truck per day... it' 4th grade math
You'e giving up 60% every day..
    Let' break it down

The company you'e leased to has dispatched you 3 loads.. each load grosses 1,000.00 which you get 80% of
So you'e lost 200.00 per load totaling 600.00 for the day, if you times that over say 300 days per year that' 180,000 a year that you'e paying someone else.
Let's assume on 3 trucks insurance costs 15k a year and most likely your using their tags which your paying for anyway and say each tag is 2k a year and you'e paying your own ifta they just file it I haven' owed ifta any money for years if you run and fuel the right way.
But let's for the sake of argument you pay 3k a year and highway use tax is payed through the tag....so it costs 24k a year.... and you'e paying 180,000 a year.

Not very smart... good luck to you

Both of my trucks are on a dedicated route, one truck cleared 411,000 last year the other 385,000. After expenses, including maintenance, note on one truck (paid the other off) insurance, fuel, and paying my two drivers, I put $194,000 in the bank for myself.

I guess everyone has a different definition of smart. If we ever cross paths I hope you'll buy my dinner since you have it so much better than me!

    Just random thoughts.

I would bank your capital for a bit while putting the third truck in the same profit center as the other two while researching the possibilities of using a few load boards or seek out another dedicated route. If you bag another dedicated, then you can purchase a fourth truck and start with that, seeing you can leverage the quality of service on the present one into bagging that other dedicated.

Overall ... Maximize the present resource until it fails to produce than you can use some of your capital to make a good move for all three trucks over to something else.

Sometimes it's wise to lease the truck somewhere so your potential doesn't ruin your own numbers, customers etc etc. Let the lessor deal with those issues.

If cannot lease on where you are for whatever reason, I get it.

As for leasing elsewhere I would think you'd have to offer a little more info about the way the truck can run, in order for the group to make suggestions.
    Van , Flatbed, Reefer? Tanker?
The numbers you have for the other two are impressive if they are solos.

What kind of work are you looking for?
