I'll leave out the sarcasm,
I actually have been a recruiter for several years. I also know a great formula for being a successful o/o, I've practiced it myself. As for LP , I'm certain the strongest survive a big company LP. I don't advocate it myself as I watched many get screwed when the economy falters, you become the first to fall.
Right now , however, several changes in the market make this a good time to try it. If you believe in the big company has your back, go for for it.
Right now it suits them to do so.
Just don't be surprised when folks who've tried and got burned speak up, though again, I'm not speaking from that perspectiveSteel Dragon, bzinger and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I completed my lease/purchase with Hill Brothers out of Omaha, Nebraska back in 2013. Truck was new in June of 2008 when I started and I'm still driving the same truck today with almost a million miles since then. Fuel economy has been great (Volvo 780 with the Volvo D12 engine) and repair costs have been low to moderate.
During the lease portion of my experience I kept a blog and published my financials every week in a spreadsheet for all to see. At the end of four years I completed the lease and netted just over $260,000 after all expenses and before taxes. You can google "OTRJournal" if you're morbidly curious.
Most small businesses fail in the first few years. The biggest cause of failure is undercapitalization, which is a fancy way of saying not having enough money on hand to weather the dry spells. I started with $10,000 in the bank and little credit and ended with quite a bit of money and stellar credit.
Good luck,

Wow...I had some time and thought I'd see what's knocking around on the forums and I saw that I had some alerts and did I ever! This thread is full of fire!
Blair is right - I have made choices that defy logic and made it work - and it's not for everyone. You need a clear understanding of what you're getting yourself into and also understand that the consequences of failure are quite real and quite harsh. But like any other business you need to give all you've got all the time.
Post LP - I have purchased my own truck and have never looked back, it can be done.blairandgretchen and fargonaz Thank this.
