Oh God not actual work. Say it isn't so. If I can't drive my truck using my phone, I won't take the load.
What’s better hourly rate or by mile

I was paid hourly for almost 20 years. The pressure of the job is minute by minute, because you are trying to finish in time to do things after work. The boss may monitor you more closely because he doesn't want you milking the clock. Some hourly work pays very well and some pays less than OTR because you are not away form home as much. You can't really generalize about hourly and CPM. Talk to drivers doing each job and ask them about the job. There's no substitute. If the company wants you to work there they can put you in contact with drivers doing that job.TaterWagon#62 and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Most companies that pay both generally pay on average the same for highway and regional work (i.e. by the mile rates and/or add pays work out to the hourly rate when the driver is able to achieve an average speed above 50-55 mph).

It is not just the pills from McKesson, but the vials. The little ones that nurses draw medicines from with a needle prior to injecting into you.
Two pallets of vials in the nose sometimes is very pricey. Makes me question the use of the whole 18 wheeler concept to do it. A van could do that. But wont be able to do 1500 miles overnight team.Ke6gwf Thanks this. -

The only thing thats better than hourly would be a high salary.. I am paid hourly for short haul regional. OT after 40 hours. I got 24.75 hours of OT last week. I like it. The percentage jobs never worked for me because it always worked out that 100% of zero is still zero. The mileage pay jobs drove me nuts as I can make ZERO pay sitting on my own couch in my house than I can sitting in a sleeper in some crappy truck stop in New Jersey.

I prefer hourly. If you get hung up at a shipper or a destination you still get paid. You get paid for chaining up. You get paid for pre and post trip. You get paid for fueling.
And, most of all, when you're stuck in traffic it's nice to know that you're still getting your same pay. Does wonders for a guy's attitude.
Working by the mile or working percentage you wind up doing a lot of work that you don't get paid for. If that doesn't bother you that's okay. It bothers most people.Toomanybikes and z32sean Thank this. -

I am paid hourly using peoplenet. I get for everything except line 1. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
