Werner...Good company or Bad???

    Werner would not have the final say on that. It would have been the doctor who disqualified him. DOT sets that standard. The company can "hope" it will clear but if the doctor says, "No," there really isn't much recourse.

    No, some of the medical conditions for which companies will "disqualify" a driver are due to company policies, not DOT. Some companies would not hire my husband due to some medication he's taking. Others just request a doctor's note.

    In the case of the trucking company my husband previously worked for, I'm not even sure that all those involved with the medical qualification decision-making in the company really understood the company policy (which would not have surprised me one bit, considering the poor communication we noticed within the company). Hubby got a bit of a run-around before it was finally straightened out.
