My bulldog is sick. Driver said started knocking and pouring blowby so went and towed it home. Got the heads and own off and can't see the problem yet. Had to go buy a sicket to fit Rod caps will pull the slugs and jugs in the morning just praying I don't find any bearings stacked.
Open to any tips as I've not been this far into a dog before.
    Thx

Don't forget to buttress bolts when pulling mains. I would look over cam and lifters good.

Well it stacked a rod bearing and ran long enough to make a mess
I've got the crank polished back out pretty good. Just got a new rod in the mail yesterday. Tomorrow hopefully will have time to slap some new bearings and plastigauge to see where I'm at.

Are the rod and main cap bolts torque to yield one time.use? Was told that but havent seen it in online manuals.

Remack rods come with bolts. They have two weight classes, M1 and M2. Need to be same as what was taken out. Can reuse rod and main bolts after inspection. Service manual should be 5-106. You can find it on macktrucks.vg-media. Go under service information, not online one, fill in search criteria and manual should be there.click on View file and download it. Mack does sell muzzleloader kits. Mosthigh mileage do need counterbores cut and shimmed. Usually a lot if erosion. They use RTV to seal liners. Typical liner puller doesn't pull them... They pull a long way!

Rocker holdown bolts one time use for sure. I would replace them.

Got the new rod and bolted up to the crank where I've done some extensive polishing.
Out some .003 to .006 plastigauge on top and bottom. Barely flattened It, now I'm waiting on a .010 over bearing set to see what that looks like.

In my experience if the crank was blue at all your fighting a loosing battle. The only time polishing really works is when it was caught soon enough that the outter coating of the bearing is just stuck to the crank. If the rod was hot enough to change colors the crank will be out of round as well as have stress cracks.

Well had plenty of coating and babbit to get off the crank but as bad as that was really not any noticeable discoloration on it or the old rod.
However did borrow a suitable set of calipers and confirmed it to be @
020 out of round so 8 guess back to the drawing board we go.
An old friend recomended calling to see if any shops still had a in block crank grinder.
Just trying to get this thing going suitable enough to go to auction. If I'm gonna out of frame ill be in it too deep to sell it and being a 2001 it's old but not old enough if u get me.

    wore out Thanks this.
