What do you Listen to on the Road?

I'm glad somebody said that. If I did listen to music, it was rock and roll, but how many times can you listen to "Jeremiah was a bullfrog",,,sheesh. I can't tell you how many times I heard a noise, that if I was rocking out, never would have caught it. Back in the days when WLS was it. Like these guys,,,

 

Man I've never even heard of cannon ball , but I did like "movin on"

 

Cannonball was a bit before my time, but there were 2 shows that convinced me, I wanted to be a truck driver. Movin' On was one, Smokey and the Bandit, the other.

 

Both had sweet w9s in them , I too was being programmed at an early age

 

Did you know, the KWopper in Movin'On was a custom built double sleeper for the show. In '74, KW did not offer a double bunk until after the show. The original KW was powered by a Cummins 903, but changed to a BC400 later in the show.

 

And don't forget the BJ and the Bear truck. I think it was one of the first aerodyne cabovers

 

In my time we had very large cassette collections and even back to the old 8 tracks. I don't recall the music contained in the boxes of cassettes, suffice it to say there is 5 boxes times 200 each. About a thousand tapes. And we go through them all.

There is the radio. One of my trainers played metal and rock when he drove. I played shows like Unshackled. It made for a very interesting dynamic in that cab but I think we are life long friends. It is mind bending when you go from Def Leppard straight to say Gambling as a sin for which we should be treated to hellfire and damnination. LOL. ha...

I listened to everything. Had a scanner to access our Air Travel control centers to listen to them too. And the trains. Eventually you built a picture around you to see how America was doing or not doing.

 

Yes that will be the first Areodyne. It really sent waves into the industry back then.

I will confess that I used to listen to the radio. Whenever I am near Fort Stockton at night I might try to find an FM station that plays a late night program of nothing but original Texas artists. It's an eclectic offering of country mixed with blues, rap, and jazz all in one. Some pretty amazing stuff.

When I am driving I-40 through the Navajo reservation there's a station where the DJ's speak Navajo and play a nice mix of music. I like listening to them talk, it's a very poetic sounding language.
