I still think any REAL disruptive tech is over 20 years out. Mack just unveiled their new Anthem, making it the newest class 8 out there, and there doesn't seem to be the onboard infrastructure to support a network of the required sensors on that truck.
So either the 1st gen of self driving trucks will have an un-aerodynamic, Home-Depot looking, Erector set of externally mounted components like OTTO, or we're going to have to wait until on if the big truck manufacturers sits down with autonomous component suppliers to integrate both systems into a new truck.
Yes, Tesla may jump the gun by not having a legacy infrastructure to unwind, but as the launch of the X & the 3 have proved, their hype exceeds their reality by quite a bit.STexan Thanks this. -
Whether it's Wired, Engadget, CNN, Fox, Bloomberg, This or That, the message is there.
One of Tesla's first Semi truck buyers is a Canadian grocery chain
Elon Musk doesn't have a desk at the office and has slept on the floor of his factories -
Musk has plans to set up charging stations world wide. the truck can role another 400 miles on a 30 minute charge.

Tesla has new megachargers for its Semi trucks

Tesla’s latest creation: An electric big rig that can travel 500 miles on a single charge -
Reducing the carbon footprint is one thing , robbing people's livelihoods is another.

Well if it's stated on the web, then by all means it must be true in both existence and function.
I don't doubt such chargers exist. That's the easy part. I doubt the ability of the battery/motor combination to power 80k lbs (along with reasonable cube capacity) across 400 miles of typical terrain and winds, at a reasonable speed, on such a charge.
But the larger question is why? We're making advancements in petroleum fueled engines in leaps and bounds. And these work well.
I know the answer. The answer is Musk has no stake in carbon based fuel sectorsLast edited: Nov 19, 2017

I'm sure solar power is being relied on too to make these wild projections, so forget about night time operations or most winter time or early/late day operations . SMH
