In Colorado you have to watch out, on some nights there is a huge lag in the information and some of the storms do a huge drop in only a small area...then the wind and the snowflakes headed out for a day on the slopes.

How about the 550 to durango? Shave a couple hundred miles off the trip.
-
He wouldn't be going past durango. There's no roads to take him over to telluride.
-
Not really. Its showing 606 miles via US 550, and 634 miles via US 491,US 160, CO 145Snailexpress Thanks this.

As mentioned I'd take 491 from Gallup this time of year, I'd rather go over Lizard Head Pass then Red Mt in a truck. Regardless be careful once you leave Cortez or Durango, not much room for error. Some of the most scenic places in the US.
Snailexpress Thanks this. -
My experience says stay on the big road as much as you can. Sometime 100 miles shorter rout will take 4 hours longer to arrive.bigkev1115 Thanks this.

Thanks everyone. CO 145 not really bad. Few steep up and down. A few sharp curves. Wont be driving there when it snowy.
-
I was gonna say. Weather hasn't arrived yet. And the only problem would have been durango/Cortez northward.

My dumb phone is on a magnetic mount on my dash. I can easily access the MyRadar app for current wind and weather. I can access Google Maps for road closures or traffic conditions.
Take the scenic route if it is dry.
