Hello truckers,
I am pretty new to trucking, been running about 6 weeks now.. my nephew got the idea he wants to run hotshot someday. well, I sold my snowplow business to purchase my truck, and I still have my 2014 duramax 2500hd and he got me thinking about using that for my wife to run one of those car haulers? Most hotspots don't run 3/4 tons, but I can legally goose neck 14500lbs.. should I just stick to my flatbed, or is this a worthwhile venture? Thanks guys and God bless!

Car hauling is one thing and hotshot is another, pulling a goose neck flatbed. Cars are pulled on a wedge trl or the mini five. But a wedge trl can double as a car trl or a cargo trl hauler. Once you make your mind up on Wht u wanna haul. Then you can move forward

Car hauler does hook up to a goose neck? Right? If that is the case my truck can pull a 14500 pound car hauler on that hitch?

I a just kicking the tires on this idea? I am not sure who to call about dispatch for that, hauling cars is something that came up in a conversation and I was a little curious about that kind of work? I would like to hear the pros and cons as well as where I would look to figure out where the work is?RJ Lopez Thanks this.

OP, where are you located?
If you are in oil country hotshot can be lucrative. The majority of loads at my company are handled by hotshots or "mini floats" (dually's with a flatbed instead of a pickup bed).TexasHarleyBoy and Dan.S Thank this. -
Looks awfully heavy for that "pickup"!u4icwargasm Thanks this.

I am not seeing the advantage to running a "pickup" as you have to follow the same hos as a class 8 therefore cant run any more loads/miles. What kind of fuel economy do they get hauling that much weight?. I guess tires and other maintenance items would be cheaper. Getting motels every night would probably wipe out any of those saving though.
Dan.S Thanks this. -
You no longer need to get a hotel room.
u4icwargasm Thanks this.
