I have been working for Barr-Nunn for a while now. First and foremost I have to tell anyone that is considering working for this company, "Stay as far away from them as you possibly can". At first they will tell you things on the phone and in their orientation to make you believe that they are a company that cares about their drivers and their families. Well I'd like tell you the truth. This company so far has been unable to provide me with greater than 2100 miles in a week. I am regional driver which means I should be home every weekend but I am never home on time, usually 2 to 3 days late every time. I would not complain about the hometime issue if I were moving making money but when I am not making it home on time it is usually due to the fact that I am sitting in a truck stop waiting for a load to get me home late which accounts for low miles. I wouldnt care if they could keep me running but if youre out here youre just stuck not making any money. If you say that you are gonna quit the first action that they will take and believe me it is quick. If you have not completed six months with them they will take back whatever portion of the bonus they gave you. So if you have only recieved the first $600 they will take that and some fees undisclosed to me for truck clean up. They use this method as a means to keep their drivers in the truck for at least 6 months. They will do a reverse of funds on your most recent pay and withold your next pay until they have determined what is owed to them by you. Ive researched the reverse of funds things and yes they can do that. Im begging you if you have any concern for your families welfare do not even consider this company. It is a mistake I wish I would not have made. But unfortunately at least for these 6 months I am trapped. Please dont let my mistake be yours.
Stay away from Barr-Nunn like its the plague

I understand your frustration in getting home 2 or 3 days late. But as a regional driver, what do you expect for miles? 2100 is about right.
I see you live in florida. That is a tough freight region for any carrier.I had heard Barr-Nunn had hired too many drivers for the southeast fleet.
I don't know if you heard this weeks message.Dan said they are currently trying to address their freight issues in your region. So,I think they are working on it. Hopefully it will get better.
I have never really found any trucking company that gives a #$!% about their drivers or their family.I mean, what else are they gonna say?
With Barr-Nunns band pay.I don't see how you can do much better for the area you live in. And when you take a sign-on bonus, wouldn't you expect to have some obligation to stay for a certain amount of time.
Have you researched other companies in that region that could give you a better deal. If so,I would love to hear what companies you find.
I hope things get better for you! Be patient with Barr-Nunn.They are not a bad company. -
I live in Baltimore Maryland looking to run regional I am used to NY and NY anyway I have two years of OTR so driving near for is good for me. What do you think about that
Daily Pay Option ($182.00/day X 5 Days = $910.00/week)*
You can elect to receive your compensation as daily pay of $182.00/day
I am also looking at Schneider natioanal two I have my tankers also
IS IT TRUE WHAT BAR NUN SAYS -
Barr-Nunn has its issues for sure. Primarily with its ops people. They did however have you sign a paper in orientation that lists all of the things that they will charge you for if you quit before six months.
As for the Maryland guy, Its not bad for northeast work you will be home every weekend. If weekends are not important to you, check out Superior Carriers. They have a terminal in Baltimore. Good benefits and decent pay -
Jacksonville Fl is the better place to live in Florida for freight wise. Always have Winn Dixie. But still Florida sux for freight.
Reason I dislike regional, low miles. And you want to be home every weekend, that means you have 5 days to make any miles. Most of my good runs are over the weekend.
What I been hearing and seeing Barr-Nunn a fairly good company. -
try being OTR and getting only 650 miles and $180 paycheck with some det pay. this is the first i've heard of this from barr-nunn, i talked to a driver and did not get this impression from him......

i'm still reading all these posts and trying to find the right one, it doesn't exist it seems.....the small ones have issues and the large ones have issues..
and nothing will change untill we demand change.

The problem out here is not so much the companies, it is the economic slow down and a total lack of any volume in freight. Volumes did tick up this past week, but only a half of a percent from the last industry report I saw. And freight volume is still off buy almost 70% from this past summer. At least according to the chart I am looking at right now.

You may want to look at Knight Transportation, they have a terminal in Carlisle,PA. I ran the East for 2.5 years with them. I beleive that they require 6 months experience,( maybe its a year) You will be home every weekend, if that is important to you--unless you dont want to be. Knight strictly runs regional, uless you want to run national They have new equipment and they dont really pay that bad. When I ran for them, I pretty much ran Indianapolis to Upstate New York and down into Georgia, I got West but not very often and the furthest West that I ever went was Grand Island, Nebraska. I was home every weekend(they really make an effort to get all drivers home who want to go home every weekend)except 2 the whole time I was there.

I guess I've just gotten soft. I run 48 states, minus nyc, I don't make it home EVERY weekend, but I do get home EVERY trip. I leave the house, went to Mami, deadhead to kings bay Ga for first pick, Fl panhandle for last pickand stright to washington state for unld, a portland or pickup and home. this job is GRAVY. NO DRIVER UNLD, blkt pay, motel if I want it, layover after first 24. a 99 freightliner classic /575/18sp. they'll have to drag my dead body away from this job. but before this I worked the S&^% jobs to get here, it's the way it works. sorts out the glory drivers.

A year ago, when I saw the writing on the wall that the carrier I was with was about to sell out, I started shopping for a new carrier. Barr-Nunn was one I contacted since the head shed is nearby.
I took about 3 months researching each carrier I was looking at. I would call a few times a week to each one about a question I had or trying to get information on customer base or other things.
Barr-Nunn got knocked out of the running early on. They started to get snitty about me asking so many questions so the removed themselves from the list. Their problem, not mine. Obviously they were not wanting a 25 year veteran driver with no moving violations, no preventable accidents, 6 years experience driving year round in Alaska, etc. That's ok. I learned early on, when they started giving me the run around when I would ask for various personel that worked in different areas so that I could ask questions. Figured they had something to hide.... so.... gave up on them quick.
Glad I did. Will never consider them again. I am with a carrier now that I can run upper midwest regional and be home every weekend, holiday, family event, etc and I will still drop about 145,000 miles (maybe more) this year. No sit time unless I am at home. Good solid running.
Sorry, Barr-Nunn, you screwed the pooch again. I let them know they are number one whenever I go past their headquarters in Granger.
