What is the ANT light for on my cobra classic 29 ltd ?

From reading here i take it that a wilson tunable antenna should show continuity when tested base to top correct ? Well mine wont so i guess my 4 month old wilson is trash?

Im unable to tune so should i just buy a fiberglass francis ?

If the ANT light comes on, your SWR are dangerously high and could fry the radio. If it's not on, your SWR are at an acceptable ratio.

I'd be taking that radio to a CB shop PRONTO and tell them you are having SWR problems.

Check your SWR on Channels 1 and 40. If the light goes out on either channel (and the SWR is lower), you need to tune the antennas. If it doesn't go out, or the SWR is high on both channels, you have a bad cable or antennas.

I would recommend a real SWR meter over the one built into the 29 but if you don't have one, it will work...just make sure you calibrate it on each channel and don't key up for longer than absolutely necessary to get a reading (2-3 seconds).

    nope .

if you have contiunity betwen the base/stud/mount and the top/aerial/antenna then you need to check your coax and connectors and the antenna mount for proper installiation and functioning .

there should never be contiunity between the ground/mount section of the antenna system or the antenna/radiator section .

like rockwalin said , id recomend getting a external swr meter .

If your antenna has no continuity between the threaded part of the antenna and the tip (when removed from the mount) then the antenna is bad.

Is it a fiberglass wilson? If so then the antenna wire is broken off of the base and can be soldered back on if you know how to solder.

If it is a steel whip with the center load coil assembly (plastic can midway up the antenna) then the problem is inside that can. These cans are not sealed real well fromt he factory and can get water in them and cause rust.

yes i was thinking when mounted . as rat said going from threads on bottom of antenna to top/stinger you need contiunity .

the wilson silverload antennas have had a lot of post on forums lately about shorting out . i was in a cb shop 2 weeks ago and out of about a dozen defective antennas in the corner 9 were wilson fiberglass antennas .
