So I have a class b and cr england has been chasing me down for the past few months. They assure me they can get me a class a with paid training. I'm in ct and I was under the impression that ct is very strict and the only way I can get licensed is by testing in ct with dot. Thought I'd go to the source and ask the guys out on the road. Thanks.

CR England will train you. You will not take the test with them but with CT instead.

In trucking there are companies that are referred to as bottom feeders. Those companies treat employees as disposable diapers. You can learn alot through CR England and it is a step to a good future. But like a good disposable diaper, you will have to take a lot of poo.

As a cr England driver I'll tell you what's going to happen. If you're not class a from the start they put you in the school and training program.

The school is cramped. They put in as much as they can since about half get booted own the first week for various reasons such as drug test, license suspension, warrent, etc.

Day 1-2 is just in a room telling you what to expect and what you need to do when backing. Day 3 is straight line backing day 4 is offset day 5 is parallel. After that is just the combination of those backing until day 10 which is around the day they start testing. The people that are learning quick normally end up being the first ones to test. Now there are going to be 8-10 people per truck so chances are you're going to back once maybe twice a day so learn quick.

If you test and pass you'll be put on a waiting list for trainer. The time it takes depends on the terminal you're at, your gender, and trainer smoking preferences. Females and non smokers take longer, if you're both you're going to wait about 3 weeks.

You're going to be with that trainer for 165-180 driving hours only not on duty not driving. You get paid $10 hr driving and minimum wage on duty not driving, no detention no lay over etc.

Once you finish with your trainer you go to phase 2 training. There are 3 parts to phase 2 training.

-Phase 2 second seat: when you're done with trainer and upgrade you'll upgrade to this point. .14 cents for all the miles the truck goes yeah it's terrible I don't know how they get away with this. If you and your coworker average 500 miles daily each the pay is normally 800+ before taxes.

-Phase 2 Lead seat: once you get 100 driving hours you can upgrade to lead. Nothing different except you get paid .16 cents a mile now.

-Phase 2 advanced lead: after 4 months total driving experience you upgrade to this. They make you take a trainer class and you make .18 cents for all the truck goes until you get a phase 1 trainee which doesn't happen until normally 6 months experience.

Once you hit 6 months you get automatically made a trainer. You don't get to run solo by your own choice unless you apply for a solo position and if there is a spot for one which almost never is. Trainers make .30 cents for all the truck goes which isn't bad starting out 6 months exp but at the same time at 6 months I don't think I should be training anyone but myself to better my skills.

The above was a well written review of a company that seems to be done okay for ITSELF.

Personally, I have never worked for less then 45 cpm. My drivers make right at $2000 per week. But they work hard and are self motivated.

Talk to someone at the CT DMV.
Go to Contract Freighters (www.cfidrive.com) school. Sometimes they will pay for private school within your state and sometimes they send you to school in Joplin,MO.
They pay for transportation, meals, lodging.
Ask if they will send you to a private school in CT.
Ask if they've had any problems with CT students changing their CDL from Missouri to CT.

The company I now work for (which shall go nameless since I am still appalled that they threw the "two year minimum experience" rule out the window in this instance) recently hired a guy who went through the CR England training mill, all 17 days of it. This was clue #1. He was fired from them within one week, clue #2. Although I protested vehemently, upper management insisted I team with this guy until he got the hang of hotshot reefer coast to coast. And I run solo, and despise team. He was afraid to run over 64 mph, we lost gobs of time in our 71 mph truck. Driver swaps took upwards of 45 minutes, just no sense of critical time deadlines. Could barely keep the truck in the lane. Constantly trying to up/downshift the DT12 manually tripping the warning chime, (he was auto restricted, of course) and playing the airhorn like a 12 year old kid. He would blow it twice when: entering tunnels, exiting tunnels, entering fuel islands, exiting fuel islands, before reversing, before pulling out of docks, before pulling out of parking spots at truck stop (any hour), at any truck that passed us while guilty of 'speeding,' and on and on. Couldn't back into a dock. Wore the same clothes for 8 days, but did shower. After a week I told my company that it was him or me, one of us isn't going out in truck #XXXX again. I won that battle. If this is what CRE is putting out there on the public roads, then they deserve all the wrath they currently get.

Going thru a similar thing in MA.

Find out what state agency handles CDL testing. The DMV does not test, they just issue the licenses.

Call the state police and they will help you. Or if there is a barracks nearby, pay a visit and be polite.
