Hello guys, I'll be honest I am not a trucker but I figured this was a good place to start. I own a ford truck and will be making many trips across the country in the next few years. I have always thought about getting a CB radio for info, traffic reports, fighting boredom, etc.

What are your thoughts on non-truckers on CB nets? Any advice for the novice CB user?

What is the best thing to start out with? Radio, Antenna, etc?

    Thanks guys,

cobra 25LTD classic would be a good choice in a pickup, you can find one for about 59.00 dollars, I would probably go with a magnet mount K40 anttena for ease of installation and it is a good dependable one also about 60 bucks, after you have them find a cb shop and get them to peak and tune it and set your swr's shouldnt be more than 15 or 20 dollars to have it done, an external speaker is a great investment too the little internal speakers are just about worthless this will add another 15-20 bucks

So for about a 150 dollars more or less you can set yourself up with a decent rig that will last a long time

you dont have to be a trucker to talk on the cb or on channel 19 . if you got kids or ladies in the vehicle i wouldnt just leave it on 19 , at least not in my area , lol

a cobra 25/29 or a uniden 68/78 are fine radios that with a proper tune up can really walk the talk on air . i prefer wilson magmounts over k40's but both have a loyal following . i also prefer hard mounting over mag mounting , and again both have their fans . a $20 DM-452 echo mic on either of those radios is a good cheap way to add echo . id also suggest a seperate swr meter and coax jumper for it .
