Actually this question gets asked quite frequently it really comes down to what you want, if you sign on with a trucking company your bound by there rules until you pay them back however at least you've got a "secure job' paying your own way you will be your own boss and will have a choice as to who you will work for either way if your new you will be required to go out with a trainer for a week or 2 then you'll be on your own.

I went to an independent School through the WIOA program and am so happy that I did it that way instead of going through a companies School. Just some of the reasons..
1: Don't have to sign a contract with a company that can last up to a year if you get schooling on your own.
2: You can be selective in choosing a company to work for.
3: Most companies from my very limited experience in researching will have new grads only drive OTR.
4: Schools will work around your schedule
There are also grants like WIOA that pay for the schooling to earn a CDL-A if you qualify. So there are allot of options out there for you. Good luck
