That is fo sure! There is a real sense of entitlement going around these days. The younger generation has been mass marketed to as customers and feel they are always right and deserve it. This carries over to work ethic, appearance and respect for others. Don't these folks realize that big tattoos really limit them in some working arena's? Or does it even matter anymore?
I so agree with your statement about the recent elections!

Hell no. SOME of us SNIVEL instead!

Don't you know the old saw about "IF the troops ain't bellyachin' they ain't happy?"
-
I agree! You have to have a big picture perspective on Salary, essentially dont think about it until the end of the year and look at the total you made for the year, vs the total you used to make hourly. I hire almost exclusively at salary, and its a shock for most that were hourly. Some eventually get it, some never do and go back to hourly.

Do all Truckers whine about their companies?
Do all truckers whine and gripe about their companies no matter how good it is? Seems like no matter what company, someone is gonna whine like a baby.
There is no Good OTR job. Only degrees of bad. Thats been my experience. I will say however that you can make some good money if you are willing to stick up for yourself and can learn to work the system.
I know I'm gonna get a lot of flack for this, especially because I'm a wannabe,
Why? We know you are clueless.
I'm actually looking forward to trucking, as it'll be a LOT less stress than I'm used to.
If you make it one year driving a truck you will have more experience driving a truck then half the drivers on the road. -
if most drivers would speak up and stand up for themselves they wouldn't be so miserable.most just say ok sure then go out and gripe and the dispatcher never has a clue they are unhappy.granted there are some jerk dispatchers but there are jerks in everything.
-
This is so true! If you can't make the load on time, TELL your dispatcher when the load is assigned to you. If you don't have the hours left, TELL them. While they should be able to see it on the QC, the fact is they are juggling so many drivers, they depend on you to tell them if there is a problem.
I know what it is like to accept a load you should have turned down. Then you have all that time on the road to think about it, worry about it, and get angrier and angrier.
Most of the time, that anger should be directed toward yourself, for either not doing proper planning, or not having the huevos to turn down a load that will really put you in a bind. I'm not talking about refusing a load just because "it's not what you want." That is juvenile and will lead to all sorts of misery for you on down the line. I'm talking about the load that you cannot legally make, or that you can't make within the designated time frame. -
what do tattoo's have to do respect? i am fully sleeved all the way to my fingers. i have a strong work ethic and good work history. should i be over looked for a job?
i know i will have to pay my dues, i'm ready for it. not all of us coming out of schools think we are owed something. i just wish the older generation of drivers would stop thinking they were born with a steering wheel in there hands. we all have to start somewhere. -
I agree with you completely on the tattoo issue. My hubby isn't quite as inked as you are, but he does have one on each shoulder and one on his forearm.

I was a IC with Merchant Home delivery working out of Bay area and Reno NV and I brought down one of my helpers from WA because he was a excellent worker and did not cause claims, which I had to pay for. The furniture company I contracted with knew he was a ex-con and had tattoos but gave the green light after I explained how good he was at customer service and not damaging things .
After 6 months at the account they told me I needed to let him go because they did not feel that he fit with there image. I told them I would leave before I would fire a guy who was so important to my operation and who's family I had moved down just 6 months earlier. So I moved to a different account.
There are just some places where Tattoos and strategically placed jewelery do not fit the image of the company or their customers. Most company's have a policy written in their employee manuals on how they want their employees to present themselves to their customers. -
so they would rather replace a good worker with tattoo's with someone who is "clean cut" and maybe will not do as well. what a ##### backwards view of life. it's not 1950 anymore people, lighten up!
