150000 miles /70mph =2142.86 hours /24hours in a day=89.29 days
150000 miles /65mph =2307.69 hours /24hours in a day=96.15 days
This means that in a years time, if you drove 150000 miles, or 2885 miles per week, you would have a week off extra. Or you could look at it this way: If you drove an additional 2885 miles, #.35/ mile, you would earn an additional $1009.75. Interstate highways were designed to move military equipment across the country on flatbed trailers at 75 miles per hour. But at .03cpm * 150000 miles equals an additional $4500. I am a new guy and don't know my butt from a hole in the ground. So where does the happy medium between speed and bonus come into play?

companys want you to get good mpg so you cant drive 75 and i would rather be safe and i dont agree with your formula that is alot more factors to consider
-
Bang, this is why I am asking. I greatly appreciate the advice of a 20 year veteran. So is it your opinion that 65 mph is the best overall speed to strive for to both get the job done in a timely fashion, as well as get a good fuel bonus?
-
and make the company happy, if it is your truck that is one thing but ona company truck they expect certain things out of you. i have always drove the companys truck like it was my own, If i am out west and the speed limit is 75 you cant do that with all the hills. You suck up more fuel and you can never avg the speed limit. To each his own but i personally dont think 5 mph is that big of a deal. 11 hours a day means you get 55 miles further than i do but use more fuel. Is it worth it to make the company mad at you for 55 miles i dont think so.

photolurp2 Thanks this. -
That makes a lot of sense, I have never thought of it that way. I sure hope these trucks have cruise control.

i am sure they do, tmc equipment is top notch. I think they roll them over at 400 500 grand
i have done alot of research on here and they are close to #1 if not #1 -
I am scared of the 13 speed. I have read that it has a splitter. I have driven eaton fuller 10 speeds, and they have a splitter. What is the difference?
-
13 speeds are easy when you are in 8th you just move the switch and have 9-12th. My freightliner i drove when i was in 8th i would just move the splitter and bump the gas and i was in top gear. They have a simulator at tmc so you can get alot of practice on your shifting.

TMC just told me that this class in S.C. was going to be one of the biggest yet, 29 people. I'm hoping that doesn't mean that its gonna take a while to get a trainer. I'd like to get out there as soon as possible.

Wow, thats a lot, do they really have 30+ openings? it seems across this site that more and more people are signing up to be truck drivers since the economy is down.
