Maybe. Would you like to earn money in trucking or just walk around with a CDL in your wallet? Companies don't care how old you are just that you have a clean record and willing to do the work. It might cost $3-8k to go to school and get the license. If you don't make $3k-8k your first year in trucking above your last job it's not worth it. It's not like airline pilots where you invest $100k to get a job that pays $20k for a few years. Most OTR jobs should earn $40-60k the first year if you don't quit. About 75% of 1st year truck drivers quit before 1 year of experience. If you make it through 1 year with a clean record you can work almost anywhere you prefer. It's not extra difficult, it's just very different from other jobs. It's a lifestyle more than a job.

It will still be a Tier one catagory with the requirement that you maintain enough physical fitness to pass a Long form DOT exam.

If you are that fit at 56, more power to you. Im not far behind you and am already done. Although the spirit and experience will never be taken.

As far as I am concerned age is irrelevant in trucking and aviation, we have seniors approaching 90 still driving semis. There is nothing apparent in the law preventing that. Even a few in general aviation.

    That's a good thing.

Absolutely. You're not too old until you're dead. Congratulations on your new goal. Best of luck. First year can be tough but you'll do great if you want it bad enough...

Yes, it's worth it. Many drivers started a new career in trucking when they were in there 50's, 60's, 70's.
Where is your location and why do you want intrastate vs. interstate?
