Meritor ZF Freedomline - Repair or replace

check for driveline play, disballane and tranny rear flange play....

 

really here ZF is not used on Volvo trucks, they put ZF with Volvo Engine in Renault trucks only. Anyway ZF is popular here, really popular and people say, better the Volvo VT tranny and better the fuller (I cant surelly agree).

I asked tranny man about this and he says to check for central bearing and for lost DS ballancing weight. Only if you are sure driveline is good - start with tranny inspection. He says that range unit of ZF may get some play and it makes vibration. He says that it is possible to unbolt rang unit from tranny and keep tranny in frame.

 

Ya, robust indeed. I'm looking for the lifespan of these ZF freedomline transmissions. No info found yet. Are any of these dead yet? 1.4 & counting, in an 04 Columbia, 60 series motor, 3.40 rears.

 

Just out of the ZF service center in Vernon Hills, IL. It is THE U.S. service and distribution and reman facility. GREAT folks! Replaced Gs3 and chased some electrical gremlins. 1.3 mi behind a Volvo D12 and box looks great! They are seeing units fail as soon as 1.5 but others + 3 million. Oil test at changes, clean air and secure harness from chafing equal long life.
05-07 voltage doublers had issues. Added resistor into harness to shut up the cold weather (54) and low voltage bugs.

Sir if you are still around since this information was eight years ago can you post the name of the transmission repair shop which is in,Dallas, tx,? However my is working like a chanp but three nights ago would not down shift. Ben from Dallas Texas, I will be more than grateful in you can send me the name of the transmission shop.
