But theres alot of companies down here and brokers. rates do suck. 55-65 hr and 60 and up a load. asphalt pays the best. but insurance cost too #### much.

My advice would be to find a small paving outfit but big enough that they keep busy. Get in with someone like that and hourly pay and you'll stay busy. Through that you can branch out. I've been in paving and grading for over 20 years and seen a lot of dumptruck owner do really well. I'm in Tennessee but can't imagine it'll be much different there. Good luck!!

Here in TN we're paying $75 hr. Not sure what it is per ton through quarry. That's another good place to check. Small quarries or sand plants.
