I am trying to purchase my hubby a CB for Christmas. The more post I have read through here the more confused I have become. I read the post from Sassy and got really confused about all the tuning information etc. from the Sparky's shop.
My husband is not really into the latest and greatest electronic toys and he is pretty technically challenge. LOLBut he does want a CB because he often runs into a shipper or receiver that wants to notify him on a certain channel and he has to tell them he doesn't have one.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a basic CB that will serve the purpose? And do I need to purchase an antenna? There are tons of them on ebay for less than $50 but I don't know if they are junk are will work fine. Thanks in advance for any help!!
CB for Christmas but SO confused!

i'm not a cb guru by any stretch, but........
when i first started driving, i bought a little cobra 19. it didn't last very long. then i got a cobra 29 and still use it today. (just had it in the shop for a tune-up) i don't think you can really go wrong with the 29, it's a good all around basic radio.
i'm currently running a frances 4.5 footer (just a simple fiberglass whip) $20 at the flying j . it works fairly well, but i have my sights set on a wilson 2000 (they cost a little more)panhandlepat and Hometime Thank this. -
many folks are happy with their cobra radios . i like uniden and some will say they're exactly the same . irreguardless , you wont go wrong with either . no matter where you get the radio from and reguardless of what is done to it the antenna will still have to be tuned . a lot of times francis antennas have an acceptable SWR out of the box and no additional tuning is necessary .
oh yea , uniden currently has $30 and $40 buck rebates on their radios .
i like the wilson 2000 and 5000 series antennas , id steere clear of their fiberglass antennas . k40 makes a nice whip also .
if you get your radio from sparkies it will be all set and ready to go already tuned and aligned .Hometime Thanks this. -
What ever you do...Don't buy off eBay! Allot of the radios that you see "cheap" on eBay, are old radios from the 70's and 80's, or may have something wrong with them, and getting a refund on electronics on eBay is almost impossible.
I would Google "CB Radio" and check out some of the on-line CB Shops, then after looking at what they have to offer, give them a call on the phone, and let them know what your looking for. Most are very helpfull and will point you wo what you need, without trying to sell ya a bunch of stuff you don't need...
Hometime Thanks this. -
Well most shops can set you up with everything you need.
I buy all my stuff from Sparkies CB shack. Google it. Give Sparky a call and he will set you up.Hometime Thanks this.
