Yes it’s worth it. Also get a passport and a TWIC card. My company pays .05 per mile extra for hazmat. Same extra pay for going into Canada. It’s easy to haul because it’s just roofing glue and it’s not a hassle.

When I was being interviewed for my company I was asked several times if I had hazmat, twic, or passport (drive in Canada). I feel it gave me a hiring edge over others.

Get all your endorsements that you can.

 

I have hazmat, tanker, and doubles/triples. Havent used the doubles/triples in the 5 years ive been driving. Also have a twic card but havent used it either.
It a good idea to get at least hazmat and tanker.
Study the questions in the CMV handbook your state has, the tests are not terribly hard - Good Luck

 

If you don’t get it early you won’t have time or motivation to get it later after you are driving. So do it before getting CDL.

 

Ain’t no thing. TWIC office you do finger prints and pictures and wait a month. TWIC allows you to enter secure sites like ports. I cannot remember the hazmat background but it’s easy.
