Hi All..
I'm looking around a lot more carefully this time before I hire on with another company.
I have a tankers endorsement but no haz mat..(I passed the test but never got around to the DHS part of things.)I have 7 years OTR and never pulled a tanker before, but am hearing it's a lot better than general freight.
Does anyone know of a good tanker company that will hire out of the NYC area?
I'd appreciate anything you know..
Any GOOD Non Haz Mat Tanker Companies?

You might try Indian River or Oakley. I believe they are food grade haulers.
Harry Boland Thanks this. -
hi pawpaw My husband is signing on this week with johnsrud transport out of des moines ia, Their package looks really promising, all food grade no hazmat and a great pay package. they require 5 years over the road and a clean driving record no accidents or tickets in the previous three years.and everyone we've talked to there including the bosses wife has been great. they have about 100 trucks and run everywhere but say you don't have to go to nyc. If you like I can keep you updated on how he's doing in the next couple of weeks
Harry Boland and Lonesome Thank this. -
Please do.....
I'm going to look at their website.
Thanks for the info and good luck to your Hubby!

Actually it does say that they(Johnsrud) prefer a hazmat endorsement-Also you may want to check out their per-diem package (5.5cents of your pay is pe-diem, and I dont see anything that say that you can opt out of it)anyhow here are their qualifications off their webpage:
A. At least 25 years old.
B. 5 years commercial tractor trailer driving experience with at least 1 year
over-the-road. Prefer tanker experience.
C. Must have a valid Class A CDL from state of residence with Tank
endorsement. Prefer HazMat endorsement also.
D. No more than 3 moving violations in last 36 months, nor more than 1
moving violation in last 12 months.

- Improper or erratic lane change.
- Following the vehicle ahead too closely.
G. No DUI/DWI convictions.
H. No felony convictions.

J. Due to nature of food grade products, pets are not allowed.schlepper004 and Harry Boland Thank this. -

Indian River is with North American Tank LinesHarry Boland Thanks this.

I'd rule out Indian River . Their high driver SEA score gets them an INSPECT rating at the scales . They have also dropped from over 1,000 power units to less than 400 .

Didn't Indian River get themselves into a world of trouble a few years back? If I remember right (and I may not be) they ran alot in Florida.
