Does May haul HAZMAT?

Bigray Are you still working for May? Im located in Brooksville, FL and was considering them. I called today and they said they dont hire in the Central Florida area (Company Driver, newbie) only around JAX & Pens. Do you know if thats true? Thx
-
horse's mouth, it's highly likely that it's true.
Recruiters generally fib to get'cha to hire on ---
not go somewhere else.
From what I read, and hear, livin' in Florida isn't the best area
to find companies wanting to hire drivers from there.
Freight goes in, but not all that much comes out.
Those domiciled in Florida also seem to find it harder to get home on
a regular basis, unless they drive for a truckin' company with Florida
customers.

May does not have alot of freight going out all the time.
They may have freight comming in but there are only a couple of places sending stuff out and one of the places you need to be a team to make the deadline.
May usually will not let a solo pick up a load set for a team the only option would be if the truck was sitting and they need to get the driver to a better freight area.
May probaly stopped hiring in your area because they do not want to have the issues getting you home or getting you out.
How close to Pensiacola are you?
That is were they have a terminal.
I do not have the time to look at a map.
If you are fairly far from there that may be the reason that they will not hire you. Because it would be an issue for you to get home. -
Im about 4 hours out of Pensacola. Not what you would consider close. Im a distance from the terminal but wanted to give it a shot. Thought they would have loads headed to Tampa and surrounding cities. I know I need to be on the road making money but figured I could get home every 3-4 weeks.
I liked the fact they are a smaller company. Guess I will be headed to Stevens. Not many companies hiring out of Central Florida. -
Yes i am still here, headed home as i type this..
yes i had heard that they stopped hiring that far south, getting to hard to get their current drivers home and out. -
May solo drivers do cross the nation into Florida with x-mas trees and frozen vegies, but as noted they may not hire from central and south Florida.

Try Knight or KLLM. There is a lot of produce that comes in through Port Manatee--bananas and mangos from South America--and the orange crop.
Stevens didn't pass mustard when I went job shopping.
May looked real good at first, but the vehicles equipment is cheap, without APU or other comfort features. Driver's can get cheated out of their paycheck by "excessive overidling, and I've been unnecessarily nickeled and dimed by unreimbursement company expenses. They have pre-pass for scales, but not fast track for toll roads and bridges, and fueling can be a real hassle the way they have Comdata set up.
May business overall appears to be slowing, not so much for me, but what I see in the terminals. Rumor has it that management overpurchased fuel at the Brooks terminal to the point where a bunch of driver managers were fired for not directing all the drivers there to fuel up. Fueling at the terminals is a hassle because there are virtually no driver services for cleaning the windshield, much less find much comfort in front of the small TV in the lounge.
Better get employed right now. The economy is slowing...
