LMAO......
Liker I said. I might lease to somebody one day when I need somebody to hold my hand also.
It's a lot easier I'm sure. Mercer, for one, has a lot of good reasons to put their name on my truck. So does Trailer Transit. They make it sound promising. Even when you talk to the drivers, it sounds good.
But I do one load and then I'm done with that broker. I don't want their name on my truck. I don't want them calling me asking me to do a load. I don't want to feel obligated to them because they control the freight I haul. I don't want them paying my insurance or tags or figuring my IFTA or planning my route.
If I want to sit at home for 4 months I don't want them calling me saying I need to get back to work. I want to run local stuff and haul my own freight at times. Can't do that leased to somebody without begging for permission.
For now, I prefer being my own boss without being under somebodies thumb. Try it, you might like it.
To each their own.
A hopefully future or a crushed dream?

Brother, you sound wet behind the ears... I leased my truck to a carrier for the outstanding rates and the fact they don't send me anywhere, I stay in my backyard. And when I want time off, I take it. I normally work around 6 months out of the year, by choice. I figure and pay my own IFTA, company files it for me, I pay for my plate, I obtain and pay my own bobtail insurance, I pay and file my own 2290, I buy my own fuel and they supply me a new trailer with no weekly fees. Yes, they have a fuel card, which I can use if I want to or not. I am here due to the rates and the fact that carrying 3 million in cargo and liability is not a inexpensive affair.
Oh, my truck is paid for, my house is paid for and I carry no debt on credit cards, because I do not have any. Tell me about leasing on to a carrier again?
Also, I parked my authority. This pays much better, as not everyone has access to this freight.
Lonesome and nightgunner Thank this. -
Exactly my point. There are benefits to doing it your way. I never said there wasn't.
If I could find a situation like that I might be interested. Haven't found one that gives me the freedom to use my tractor for personal use while under their insurance. -
Why can't you use your tractor for personal use? I have, and do, company lets me use the trailer too within reason, personal moves of stuff.
-
That's what I was thinking. But you said it so much more eloquently!nightgunner Thanks this.

No, those that lease their truck on to a carrier are basically company drivers. According to you.Last edited: Dec 23, 2017

It's funny, we have had a few drivers come and go. The one issue they always cry about is that there are NO directions provided, just an address for both ends. I am amazed at how many O/Ops do not know how to read a map or use Google Maps. No one to hold your hand here, and no one ever calls to bug you either. This is just like when I ran under my authority, we are on our own to a point, no wet nurses here unless there are delays and or the truck breaks down. Oh, the truck breaking down is still on us, they are not sending me a service truck.
Lonesome Thanks this. -
I could care less what you call yourself. If you get your panties in a wad and want to call me names because I want to be fully independent and consider putting somebody else's name on my truck as making me a company driver, then have at it.
I meet all kinds out here.
I still treat everybody with respect out here, even those O/Os right out of school who lease a truck from Swift or JB Hunt.
I do still consider myself wet behind the ears. With only 1.5 million accident free miles as a completely independent O/O pulling flatbed, who does all the work on my truck myself, I still have a lot to learn and I do learn new stuff daily it seems. I try to pick the brains of all the more experienced drivers out here who have much more experience than I do. Whether they are company drivers, or lease to a company or O/Os.
