found a dealer with new 2019 benson 53x102 for $35,000. Rear dump, tool box with cam lock. Got approved and about to pull the trigger. Will be ready mid January. It’s the 624 model. Decent price?

I dunno, it seems about right to me. Others on here would know better then me for a straight floor. Step deck runs about 10k more on average if that helps.

    Jasonar15 Thanks this.

That price seems about right for a brand new trailer, compaired to the same style and type will cost you about 20 k used.

Why the 53' though? you cant put anything behind the last axle anyways, unless you are hauling real light freight.

    Customer freight requires loads on a 53’ I believe it’s 60’ total

Okay, 53' is a pain in the ### when you are used to the 48' , but if the revenue is worth it, i completely understand

I do spot market and when the difference between having a 53 vs 48 means the difference between making a load work or losing a day because you dont have the deck space,.. I'll take the 53'. Unless your in tight areas,.. there really isnt much to worry about.

I pull 53' step,.. and 90% of what I do goes down on the 43' lower deck. 37 - 38ft would not work out well for what I do. 53' makes things so much easier. Better to have and not need than to need and not have. And I load behind the rear axle all the time. Never heard of not being able to utilize that space.

97% of all freight will fit on 48 feet or less(my experience from 10 years) I also have a 45 foot that gets used quite a lot

I have two 48’x102” and one 48’x96”, the extra 3% that won’t fit on the 48’ will on the 53’ I’m looking to get which is about 10 loads a week where I haul out of.

Good luck with the new edition. Is it a plain trailer? Or did you spec. it with some extras?
I do 50ft step decks, 50ft dryvan, and 50ft reefer. All 102's, and all spread axles with the wheels to the back. I can't do the overhang with the wheels up, it looks goofy. They are not strictly legal trailers spec'd like this but they fit the extra freight, still get around better then a 53' and look like 48's. Only issue is you won't find them on the lot, gotta have them built and sign waivers stating you know they are not legal. Takes way too long right now to have a trailer built.

I didn’t spec, as you said takes too long to get built. But found the 624 for same as most want the 524. Like the extra weight capacity even tho probably won’t use it but why not for the same price. Has 24”x24”x60” tool box with cam lock, rear axle dump, 21 winches. Didn’t get the Cali legal cause I ain’t going to Cali. Looking to have them add a ubl lift on front axle. Don’t know about the lift. Dealer said don’t get but maybe 3” ground clearance.
